have i been screwed by a cable compny? (UK)
« on: July 20, 2011, 05:52:40 PM »
i needed a pair of TRS balanced 1/4" jacks for my studio speakers so i went to a specialist "custom made" company in England

i needed 2 meters in length per cable.so i ordered a pair of 0M2(length) cables.......

when i got the cables through the post i was taken aback......the two jack plugs were separated/joined by a length of cable about 3 inches long...the total length including jack plugs was about 7 or 8 inches per cable, totally useless

i revisited their site and with further inspection noticed that there was also a 2M0 size to choose from.....oh ho "it's my mistake" i thought.fair enough

so i emailed them with my apologies and suggested they send replacement cables of the proper length and i will pay the difference in price for the new length and pay for the return postage of the "wrong cables" so far so good....

i could not understand how i made such a basic mistake, how i was so confused over the sizes....so back i went to revisit the site once again to satisfy my own curiosity.

i am from the "old school" of feet and inches,so i was unsure what to order, as a precaution i decided to use the cable companies own consumer guide..."KEY TO CABLE ORDERING CODES" 0M2 = 200cm cable length.

" there you have it" i thought to myself "the 0M2 they speak of is 2 meters"
 "that's what i need,i will order that"...except it's not. 0M2 in actual fact = 20 cm! not 200
the misleading info is still on their website.

after realising that the "wrong info" caused the "wrong order" i withdrew my offer of returning the useless cables at my cost.(if they will send me a SAE i will gladly return the leads) and informed them that i will not pay any updated order, they have since taken an extra £7.30 for the extra lengths out of my bank account and to this day have refused to answer any of my emails

If you agreed to pay the extra and have the new cables and are refusing to send the originals back at your cost (which is unreasonable if you ask me as you original said you would and it was your mistake in the first place)

Your best bet would just be to call them and discuss it.

But at the end of your day you have your new cable and you have paid for it.

so all is fine

i agreed to pay the extra.. this was before before i realised that i had ordered the cables using THEIR faulty/wrong  CABLE ORDERING GUIDE

Yep you should surely be entitled to a full refund on the original cables, if the mistake was in their ordering guide.

Might as well name and shame too, assuming you've given them a reasonable time to respond.

they are quite easy to spot on the web....English custom made cable company...
in fact their original mistake on cable lengths is still on their website despite me reporting it to them on the 11th...PROs

But you also stated that you DIDNT use the cable ordering guide and admitted that you made the mistake first and then later found the ordering guide

so even if their guide is wrong. It in no way misled you

in the original post it says you used the guide when you revisited the site.

However its not really a big issue.

not meaning to be an ass but its a few quid

and you have got a couple of cables from it even if one is useless to you

The mistake is there on their ordering guide, but it's pretty clear it's an error.

No matter, that mistake is their fault, though really for a few quid, and having told them you'd pay the extra and the return costs (regardless of whether or not you'd rechecked their website to see if it was definitely your mistake) I'd just do that and call it a day.
