What would you like to see BKP do next?
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:21:46 PM »
I'm sorry if this is a repost. I looked about, a bit, before posting, and didn't see a thread like this.

Would you like to see a new aesthetic approach taken? Maybe a tone you can't quite find?

I, personally, would like to see larger pole pieces or rails as an option.
An olive drab ammo can coloured cover would be pretty nifty, too.
Praise the Sunn.

I'd like them to do a 'Signature Tone' series. Kind of like pickups designed to catch the vibe of famous players. I think a lot of players would buy them.

Whilst some of the current line can kinda do these none of the current offering do it bang on theres always something i dont like.

Stacks would be pretty nice.

EDIT:
I, personally, would like to see larger pole pieces ... as an option.
I'm thinking something along the lines of the Seymour Duncan Invader to give the pole pieces a larger surface area.
Think this: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=585.msg26417#msg26417, only bigger (and, maybe flatter than the SH-8).
Would a modification like that be as simple as swapping one bolt for another, or is there a far more difficult plot point I'm not considering?
Tim says this is not a custom option he is willing to do, at this time.

Isn't that what they are already doing - see Rebel Yells and Crawlers?
And what about the others - most names come from songs, so you can draw the conclusion as to which signature stands behind it (War Pig - Tony Iommi, Miracle Man - Zakk Wylde, Holydiver - Vivian Campbell, Painkiller - Judas Priest, VHII - you all know who that is etc. etc.).

+1 on the stacked single coils. I would especially love them to do a stacked Tele model.

Cheers Stephan

mini-humbuckers and filtertron-type pickups would be cool.

Also there's certainly room for "hybrids" and experimentation... I once played a SG Special (P90), where the P90 had been modified to a more fenderish specs (magnetic pole pieces etc - don't know the exact details), and the result was really interesting. The "opposite" approach - a Fender-sized SC with a P90-like architecture might be interesting too (or not - not a pickup expert so I can't tell).

Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

I'd like to see more oddball pickups like filtertrons, Jaguar and Jazzmaster pickups, staple top P90's.

The names are just to do with the vibe that Tim got when the pickup was complete.

But if he made pickups for specific tones it would be a lot more precise

I'd like to see them focussing on their core business: continuing to make superb pickups and maintaining the extremely high level of customer service which BKP customers have experienced for years. Especially in these economic times, it's an extraordinarily risky strategy to go branching out too much (although keeping some innovation is of course essential), and if I ever need another guitar, it will be getting BKPs, so I want them to be around if/when that happens!

so true roo. the reason i'm sticking to BKP forever is that whatever i want/need out of my guitars, they'll deliver, and take my hand along the way to my pickup selection. and not just 'they', the owner and man who makes the pickups! try asking larry dimarzio something about pickup selection!

I'd like to see Bareknuckle Guitars!

I would imagine then they could custom create the ideal sounds from the exact woods, pickups, pots etc. I reckon they would be pretty stylish too.

I like the idea of stacked/hum-cancelling "single-coils" too.

But when you look at the different noiseless models from DiMarzio, Kinman, Duncan, Fralin, Fender, Lace, Bill Lawrence etc they've all adopted their own approaches to the problem and - presumably - patented them to some extent (although the basic stack concept is now pretty widely used)

So does Tim invest ££££, and many hours, in R&D to develop a unique BKP approach which may turn out not to be profitable?  I suspect not, especially since he hasn't expressed any interest in these types of pickups in the past.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
