bbc4 documentary triple bill

who needs the pub? nice documentaries on lemmy, hawkwind, and the early british metal scene one after the other.

It was good stuff - didn't know they were on, but I stumbled on the Hawkwind documentary then watched the Heavy Metal Britannia programme (again).  I saw the Lemmy film recently.

Hawkwind was the first band I ever saw live, in December 1979 (and speaking of Mick Box, Uriah Heep was the second band I ever saw live!)

.....well, thinking about it, they were actually the second and fourth bands I saw, since they were supported by Billy Karloff and the Supremes/Extremes(!) and Girlschool respectively....

Have to be honest, although Hawkwind put on a great show I've never been that keen on their music...

The Stranglers for me, but Hawkwind were among the first ..... never saw Motorhead though.

Hawkwind Live '79 is one of my all time fave albums (yes...album).
I remember being knocked out by the guitar sounds and playing. Not very cool for a young Clash/Skids fan.
Still gets listened to today.

My first "real" live band was Def Leppard at Tiffany's in Glasgow in '79. Walking up to the bar and getting served "a pint of heavy"  at a rock gig was an absolutely life changing experience for the 15 years old Clyde
Followed a week or two later by The Beat at the same venue. Best Gig Ever!
