Yep, just finished a full refret and nut replacement on my Yam SG!!!
Amazingly, it's gone pretty damn well...
Bad bits:
- Nut is a little too high - I'll fix this next srting change
- Accidental relicing... scuffed the finish in a few places...
- Slightly rough fret ends - they're a bugger to get right, particularly at the 21/22 fret...
- The 13-22 frets were a complete @rse to get level - I ended up taking them down a load more than the other frets
Other than that, I'm really pleased. The Tusq nut makes a difference compared to the original plastic, although it's shown up flaws in the tuners now (and probably the TOM bridge too - that's another project, I guess...)
Once again, I have developed a load more respect for your guys that do this stuff every day - getting the frets
just right is a real struggle...
And the tools make a massive difference - the StewMac fret levelling tool is a must, as are needle files.
I'd definitely have a crack at it again (although maybe not on an expensive guitar).
Mark.
