Just ordered my first BKP - and it arrived today!
« on: July 27, 2011, 12:59:48 PM »
Hi there. I just placed an order for a black-covered Holydiver for my Jackson SL1.
The JB in there just isn't cutting it. Surprising, as I normally quite like the JB...

This is my first BKP, after years of pondering

If it works out, a set for my Les Paul Traditional is up next.

Congrats, hope it is everything you wanted.
Remember to toy around with the height a lot, since that does a lot to the sound, and let us know how you like that mother!
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Great Pickup in my opinion the Diver is the pickup the JB wants to be. Powerful, great for rhythm and lead sounds but also good cleans, very transparent and dynamic. Great versatility and works well with Tubescreamers or other boosters.
The Diver replaced a Painkiller in my Caparison Dellinger and I couldn't be more pleased!

I will do my best. In this particular guitar, the JB sounds flat and lifeless. I'm hoping the HD will add some sparkle.

It definitely will add fullness, warmth and punch, and clean up a lot better than the JB.

Cheers Stephan

The Holy Diver sounds nothing like a modern JB. But it does sound remarkably like the original JB, back when it had 13-14k resistance and no engraving on the base plate. I'm talking the ORIGINAL JB, which is a great pickup. The new JB is sonic mess in my opinion.

I don't think the HD will add 'sparkle' to your guitar, but it will sound a lot more even, not the boom n sizzle of the modern JB. It will also respond a lot better to your amp's EQ and will have a TONNE more definition.

as much as I like duncans and old spec stuff, I don't think any seymour ever had the clarity of a supposedly equivalent BKP, just like Gibson T-Tops and Tim Shaws don't sound as clear as any of the vintage line BKPs I had
high DC seymours are very compressed, and that's part of their  signature tone
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
