Hi guys,

Just a quick question:

What pot values would you think I should use for a Sinner bridge/ fender SC (don't know which but sounds very Hendrixy) middle/ Dimarzio Virtual Solo neck.

I believe the Sinner and Dimarzio would be better with 500k and the Fender with 250k. Waddya think and how would I wire it all. I want a Vol/ Neck+middle tone / bridge tone and push pull on the middle tone for adding the neck to all combinations!  If possible.

Thanks in anticipation!!

Jim

A 500k log volume, a 250k log tone wired as a master tone, and a 500k log tone as a blend pot would get you all the combinations you want.

I attached a schem to illustrate the blend function. If the blend pot is turned up full you have the normal selector function with the 5-way selector. Turning up that pot adds the bridge pickup to all settings on the selector including the neck pickup, and adds the neck pickup to all settings on the selector that include the bridge pickup. It is what I use and find very comfortable.

Awesome Stephen,

Thanks a lot mate!

Just a couple of Q's:

What values would you use fo the vol pot cap/ resistor?

Are there no wires going to one side of the 5 way switch?

Cheers again,
Jim

Hi Jim,

What values would you use fo the vol pot cap/ resistor?

It's a matter of taste and what you want to achieve. Do you use the tone control to get a different sound when turned off that retains a bit of definition? Try a 0.015uf cap. Do you want an effective tone control that provides a different tone throughout the rotation? Try a 0.047uf or 0.05uf cap. I personally like the paper-in-oil (PIO) caps. In Strats I also had good results with ceramic caps. I would not use the Mallory M150 here because they tend to make the sound a bit nasal to my ears. For the pot I would use a 250k log (=250kA). Many like the CTS pots - I prefer the Bourns because they turn easier.

Are there no wires going to one side of the 5 way switch?

Yes.
