Bareknuckle nailbombs right for me?
« on: July 30, 2011, 04:50:30 PM »
So I just won a bid for an Ibanez RGA 121 off Ebay. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

The guy who previously owned it uprgaded his pickups to nailbombs. My question is will they suit the type of music I play?

I'm very much into metal orientated things. Think periphery, August Burns red and whatnot although I have been quite fond of the clean/delay type sounds over the past few months.

Is the nailbomb more classic rock orientated? Should I upgrade to something like an aftermath?

Help me out guys!

Thanks

BigB

I suggest you give it a try before deciding for an upgrade, since only you can tell whether the NB suits you or not. FWIW, while it's good at classic rock tones too, it's definitly on the modern side.
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

I'm defintely gonna give it a try but I certainly don't need anything geared towards classic rock. I need atriculate note definition, massive low end with plenty of mids to cut through the mix.

If they're ceramic, they'll sound great for that music; if they're alnico I think they will be just as tight for that music, just a bit more mid range, and a little less top end. Only had experience with the Ceramic :)

I used Nailbombs when I played with Periphery at Sonisphere, they sounded great for that style.
Why not wait until you've tried them and make up your own opinion?

Good good. Well I should get my guitar early next week. If it's not aquired to my tastes I think I'll have a look at the aftermath but hopefully not!

Donīt forget toying with the height if you are not totally satisfied right away, that can make a world of difference.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Well the Nailbombs are modern pickups, but the fact that they can do classic rock aswell is only a sign that its a good pickup if you ask me. If you have a pick up that sounds good for metal but only that, it will just limit your sound options (for myself, i get very inspired musically with different kind of good sounds).
