I want a Dimarzio Air Zone with slightly less low end and overall output

Does BK make a pickup like that?  I like my air zone but it's a little too boomy and sometimes I wish it had a tad less output.

Keep in mind, the resistance of the air zone listed at 17.5 ohms is misleading.  The tone zone (higher output version) is listed at 17.3 so obviously the readings don't matter with these pickups.  In reality the Air Zone is probably more like 12-14 ohms in the real world.

I have no idea.

The output of the pickup isnt only measured by the resistance though.

That's true.

I just know some people use those as a reference sometimes, but in the Air Zone's case it's totally off.  Someone might see the 17.5 and recommend me a holydiver...when in reality the holydiver is a probably a hotter pickup.

Well I'm not familiar with the Air Zone, but I do know the Tone Zone - lots of bass and mids.

Which makes me think... Black Dog?  Certainly not boomy, vintagey tone but strong in the midrange.

This was kind of what I was thinking.  While I would like something with a little more output, the next choice would be a Holydiver...which is comparable to a Super Distortion (read: WAY too much output)

What guitar is it in, and what body/neck woods? 

I'm guessing some kind of superstrat, as that tends to go hand in hand with DiMarzio!   :wink:

It's an alder superstrat with maple top and maple neck.  So yeah...pretty much dead on.

Well, the general consensus is that the HD is great in alder guitars.... and regarding output, people often say BKPs don't seem as high-output as the specs suggest, because of their clarity.

If you wanted something fairly powerful, warm but more vintage-sounding, you might consider the Crawler?
