I just picked up a new J5 Telecaster and within minutes of bringing it home, I had it in pieces ready to start the usual modification process that all of my guitars go through. First order of business was to change the bridge pickup from the Fender Enforcer Humbucker to a BKP Aftermath. Now, I've heard great things about the Enforcer, and it sounded pretty good during the 15 mins that I played it at home, but it seemed a little too tame for my tastes. Enter BKP Aftermath...
Now, after pulling the control plate off I notice something unusual... at least for me. This guitar has 2 pots... a neck p'up volume and a bridge p'up volume... and BOTH of them were 250k pots! The neck p'up is a single coil Twisted Tele and the bridge p'up was an Enforcer humbucker. I'm used to seeing 500k pots in most of my guitars with humbuckers and 250k pots in Strats with single coils, but I've never seen a Humbucker with a 250k volume pot.
Could this be the reason I wasn't too thrilled with the sound of the Enforcer pickup? And should I go ahead and wire in a BKP 550k CTS pot while I have everything taken apart? Or would the BKP Aftermath sound good with the 250k pot... as maybe Fender's thinking was that this guitar would sound too bright with a 500k pot? And can I mix and match a 250k pot and 550k pot on the same guitar?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
