tailpieces and posts

does anyone know if a Gotoh tailpiece is a direct replacement for a Gibson TOM tailpiece? will both cars fit the same posts?

This is.

I'm curious, however- why not go with TonePros? Price?

plan is to put on gibson tailpiece (TP-6) on a guitar with a gotoh tailpiece.
I've tried before on an LTD with a tonepros tail and it meant swapping the posts.
If a gibson tail is a direct drop in swap for with gotoh posts, it makes things easier.
I've found dimensions drawings but for some reason, the drawings don't actually have all the dimensions.

its not a huge issue.

The spacing between the studs/posts will be the same, so if you're just swapping the tailpieces but leaving the original studs in place, you should be fine.  The only thing I'm not sure about is whether the TP-6 uses regular, bog-standard Gibson studs?

If you want to swap the studs as well, problem - the Gotoh studs will have metric threads (M8) but the Gibson ones will have imperial threads.

cheers.
I never swapped for the studs on my LPC. the TP6 went right on, same fit as the original stopbar. The thickness of the TP6 stopped it going on a tonepros ESP/LTD tailpiece posts.
I've opted for an Edwards to back up my LPC now that my LPC is getting a bit battered and I only ever take the gibby out in a hardcase. I can gamble using my soft case with the Edwards. The Edwards will have Gotoh hardware but I'd like to get fine tuners on it. most of the technical drawings, like the ones Crunch linked me to via the product info on the warmouth site, lack the dimension of the thickness of the bridge where it meets the posts. All i know is the Gotoh bridge is 8mm wide around the posts. thats only 50% helpful. cheers gotoh.

Philly is correct
If the TP6 takes standard height studs is another matter

We have loads of new Gotoh studs (metric) spare from where we buy Gotoh aluminium tailpieces but use the Tonepros locking studs instead .

We also have Tonepros in stock too - in both metric and imperial and the split studs will pretty much accomodate any tailpiece.

Give us a shout if we can help

Cheers guys.

I'll test it out and get back to you. I'm excited about this coming guitar. (black edwards 92CD)

Johnathan, I've been meaning to get in touch about my custom. I thiiiink the neck relief may need adjusting.
The strings look a bit far from the neck pickup, but fretting at the 22nd pulls the string in quite close. Playing at the low end of the fret board on the neck pup feels a bit wooly. Its a nailbomb in the neck, so it probably shouldn't. I was thinking it might be the string height over the pup when playing at the low end of the neck. I took the guitar to Wunjo for a service, since they owed me a free service, but somehow, I doubt this detail was checked.

In any case, I'll wait till I know about about this tailpiece situation, and then if i come down to fix either, I can maybe make one trip, and not two.

Gold hardware, or the John Sykes one?

Edwards are great guitars (even though I've ended up selling most of the ones I've had!  ).  Well made for the price, and top-quality hardware and pickups (OK, not everyone likes Duncans, but a lot of guitars in that price range have Duncan Designed, not the "real thing").

gold hardware. I debated the JS, and the black 98CD. but I didn't fancy the 'aged' binding. I'm hoping the neck is going to be similar to my LP. if its way out, it'll probably go back.

Is it a new-ish one?  The last couple of Edwards guitars I've bought have slimmer necks than my older ones, which you might like.  None of them have been huge.
