NGD X 2!!!!!!!!!!
« on: August 07, 2011, 10:34:37 PM »
Hi Guys!!! It has been awhile since my last post, but this is as good of a day to get back as any, seeing that I just got two new guitars! One is a warmoth job I have been struggling to put together for years. It has a solid koa body, a koa neck and a brazilian board. Currently it has two cheap p90s, until I can afford  a set of Supermassives. The other is a Gibson '61 reissue SG. I am debating on switching my set of VHIIs from my PRS SE singlecut to this though.
Sorry for the cr@p photos, I am not much of a photographer.

That tele looks badass, mate, and I like the looks of the SG, however not my fav. guitar to play.

I am usually not a fan of the SG, but this one has a neck on it more like a les paul and it doesn't neck dive when strapped on like most SG's do.

Don't '61 reissues normally have skinny necks?  :?

The Warmoth looks good, interesting choice of bridge.  :)

They usually do, but this one is pretty chunky, which I like. The tele has Warmoths Boat profile, I was looking to do somthing a little different with it, since I already have another telecaster. Plus, I have always loved p90s.

Love that SG.

What you need is a pair of Riff Raffs and a pair of shorts.

Good old Gibson, always inconsistent!   I ruled out the '61 reissue because of the (expected) neck shape, but I wanted the early-'60s style with the small scratchplate so I ended up with a Tokai.

+1 to the Riff Raffs.  Or a Riff Raff bridge and Mule or SM neck!

Same here. I love the look of those 61's but hate Gibson's 60's neck profile. Maybe I need to go play a couple...

Congrats with your new guitar day!

I generally like skinny necks but found my 61 Reissue's neck a bit too skinny even for me. The neck on my 1963 Standard is chunkier. Presumably your SG has 57 Classic pickups at present - although I put a set of Riff Raffs in mine, I did not dislike the 57 Classics.

(My son now has the 61 Reissue as he decided that as I had my Standard restored I wouldn't need 2 small pickguard SGs - I did manage to get his American Standard Strat as part compensation!)

Those tokais are very nice! Yeah Gibson is not particularly regular in their production, but it worked in my favor this time. It has a neck on it like a 59 les paul. It is not a baseball bat, but it has nice heft to it, Especially compared to my Ibanez Prestige.

Yeah, the Tokai is very good, and has a nice hefty neck.  At least as good as any of the Gibson SGs I've owned, although I sort of wish I hadn't sold my Pete Townshend SG....

It's one of the high-end models, the SG-155 (or SG-175 now, I think).  Only problem is, if I decided to sell it I'd lose loads of money (even more than I usually do  ), because most people don't realise the differences between the cheaper and more expensive Tokais (can't blame them, it's very confusing!).

Thank you for that - of course I still lost some money, but nowhere near as much as I expected!  :D

Now I need to find some cheap Tylers I can sell at a profit!
