I'm really confused as to why there was riots in Manchester. I know it happened in London over some guy getting shot, etc. But what caused Manchester to go off the rails? I'm really confused, haha.

I don't think the guy getting shot was really the reason for the riots in London.

Manchester and Salford has it's own breed of scumbags. I studied in Salford for 3 years and I'm from the North West. Those kids are insane. They were lawless 10 years ago and they are still lawless . There is no justification and no excuse, just speculation on what makes a person desire to do these things regardless. Oppurtunity to get free stuff no matter what the cost to business owners and the public, hatred for the police... at this stage I don't think anyone really knows and attitudes are that right now, most people don't care as long as police get the streets under control.

Because it's not about someone getting shot...

These kids see others robbing and apparently getting away with it on the telly, so they follow suit in their own towns and cities.

They see something 'for free' and so they take it, with absolutely no thought or conscience.

These are not riots in my view, it's simply thieves congregating en masse. It's the perfect excuse to shoot the f*kin lot of them. They're only a burden on society in any case - cost of imprisonment, future crimes, state benefits, poor health draining the NHS, and then they breed. Kill 'em all: job sorted. The rest of us who work hard, pay our taxes and do our bit for society don't need these freeloaders whose every move is destructive and greedy.

And I'm generally a pretty liberal-minded person... This one's just got me hot under the collar.

Glad to see some of the really decent teenagers appearing on television and radio interviews - not all kids are bad, this is really the small minority who simply don't want to contribute in any way to the world and are out only for themselves! The parenting is woeful...

They were interviewing some (very young-sounding) kids on Radio 4 this morning and that's pretty much what they said - they admitted they could probably afford to buy some of the things anyway, but "why would you not take free stuff?".  And they said they weren't bothered about getting caught (eventually) because they didn't have police records.

There were a few interesting moral principles on display though - one said he didn't think younger kids should be stealing ("Is it OK for you to be stealing then?".... "Errrr, no...").  One said he'd be in trouble with his parents if they knew where he was, another said his parents didn't care.

A. $%&#ing. Men.

These people forfieted their rights and liberties when they disregarded those of others. Armed response units should be out there putting a bullet in the leg of every single piece of shite thats taken to wrecking other peoples lives and terrorizing our cities. If they're seen destroying property or most of all attacking another person, they should be shot. Non-lethally, but shot. Lethally if needs be if they're seen attacking people, however. Then, since that would disperse them pretty fast and police wouldnt get the chance to shoot too many of them in any given area, the riot squads at the ends of streets, or just round the corner, to catch the rest of the scum. The rest would get the idea pretty fast.

Punishments for those caught? Easy. Dont drain more money putting them in jail. Sieze any and every item they own of worth and auction it off to contribute to damages, and put them to work as part of rebuilding everything they've destroyed. No fixed sentences, just till its done; free helping hands for building firms. Maybe if these turds find out that its harder to create than destroy at least some of them might learn something.

If any invloved reoffend, then its off to a camp with them for some form of 16-hours-a-day-7-days-a-week slave labour. Dead people cant work; put them to use.

Except the ones that have hurt or killed people, of course. Murderer = jail, for a long time.

As for the apathetic parents, I'll wager a lot of them live in council housing. Make an arrangement with the council to evict them if they cant get and keep their kids in line, indefinitely. They think they own the streets, so hit them in their homes.

The shortest answer: Because they can.

Slightly longer: Because they can and can get away with it and because they don't give a cr@p about anyone else but themselves.

As these webpages from 2006 and 2010 indicate - poor quality, overcrowded council housing may be amongst the fundamental root problem in all this:

Not that it justifies trashing your own community, but some of London's council estates looked pretty much like war zones before the rioting.

Dead people cant work; put them to use.

BUT who would you sentence to having to supervise these ill-educated work-shy imbeciles?
You could put them to use by making them run on treadmills, I suppose, generate some energy before they cork it...

"Its the governements fault! Whoever they are? Conservatives?"

Yes. The government, that you cant name, are responsible for your destruction and theft of other peoples property. It all makes sense now, because the most effective method of political protest it stealing a telly. Perhaps that explains their retardation as well; the government, possibly conservative, schools they dont go to have failed to teach them even basic use of their native language.

I think she was "mirroring" their tone and attitude to get them to speak more freely and make complete idiots of themselves
