Testament...
« on: August 12, 2011, 04:00:54 PM »
just in the mood for some old thrash - listening to Testament (The New Order) and Skolnick's playing is just great, the attack and vibrato on single notes with that tone about to break into feedback at any minute is just hair-on-the-back-of-the-neck time.

any love for Testament here?

I love the debut album. Was slightly disappointed in the follow ups and kind of lost track of the band.
But their last album is totally killer.
I've seen them live a couple of times and they always deliver the goods.
Definitely a fan.

I like pretty much anything testament and the last album was an absolute stunner.

Im the same with Exodus too

Both bands have progressed a heck of a lot to get to where they currently are

I think I've got the first album (on vinyl   ) and Practice What You Preach.

They were never among my favourites, though, to be honest.

Maybe I should check out this latest album.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

Lots of Testament Love Here!

saw them in 2009 in Cardiff with Megadeth and Judas Priest and they stole the show, Skolnick has great phrasing and is my favourite lead guitarist of all of the early thrash bands (yes i prefer him even to Mr Friedman)

Testament are killer! saw them at Notts rock city /rescue rooms few years back and they were great. formation of damnation is a great album, I think sneap produced. Looking forward to their new album. They should have edged anthrax out of the big 4, or there should have been a big 5!

I liked "Low" and "the gathering", although the latter had probably more death metal influence than thrash influence. Never liked their early stuff. I also find the last album tiring. Very heavy, but somehow also boring.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

The gathering is the only one that i cant listen to very often.

possibly due to the vocals. I find them the worst on that album it just doesnt Jive with my mental image of how testament should sound

Sorry Sir

they both have to be commended for the amount of melody that they put into their solos, but I prefer the blues and jazz stylings of Mr Skolnick, that being said the solos to 'Tornado of Souls' 'Addicted to Chaos' and 'Skin of My Teeth' are immense

Back to topic - I like the songs from the gathering Live (DNR in particular) and thought that the influence of James Murphy in the lead department was great (although not enough of him on the album)

The Gathering, Formation, and First strike is deadly are regularly played around the house. that and Demonic and Low, but they are the darkest albums IMHO. the Gathering is a nice cross between the nearly death thrash testament sound of low and demonic and the old school of first strike is deadly.

I adore testament!

I just get transported back to being 15 at school when I listen to Live At Eindhoven - great band, only got to see them for the first time last year.
