Singlecoil confusion
« on: August 13, 2011, 02:32:59 PM »
Hey folks, after long time playing a LP guitar i decide to change pickup in my strat but i have no idea what pickups sounds like. Im looking for sound like Jason Barwick from The Brew gets from his strat. Here is a record http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXD94CHZzvU&feature=related. Only thing i get by myself is that he sound a lil bit like SRV. I was wondering if some Bare Knuckle Pickups can get this kind of sound but i have no idea.  If someone can help me with pickups choice it would be awesome. Thanks Guys.
Greetings.  8)

Difficult to say, but this sounds more like Slowhands to me. If you like SRV-tones, look at Irish Tours.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Are you sure you want single coils for this tone ?
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

Nice, I havent seen that before.  :o I thought that's strato at this song, but at most of their songs he's using strat that sound killer. I know the most important thing is player's hand but i want to buy decent pups for my strat and still thinking about choosing Irish Tour or Slow Hand.

If you want fullsounding sc's with a fair amount mids, go for the Slowhands.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

If you are unsure about specifically what strat tones you are after, I think the Irish Tours would be your best choice - they will give you the greatest breadth of strat tones, including a very convincing SRV impression.
