"GIBBO" love rock guitars

has anyone seen these?

they have a few in my local cash generator all new with plastic on for £149

i looked at them closely and it looks like they have painted over the tokai logo and added the gibbo with a imitation mop sticker and clearcoated over it

clear hack job it seems.

However if they are Tokais £149 isnt too bad....

guessing those are the mic tokais, though... hard to make out from the photo but seems to be a 3-screw truss rod cover. Plus the price, i can't imagine they're doing an MIJ one for £150!

Generally that store sells stuff ridiculously cheap though they had a gh50l half stack for 250 the other month and have sold a few 400+ series LTDs for around 250-300

i guess they have little to no knowledge about guitars.

Its the only reason i ever go in to check if they have anything good at a ridiculously low price

yeah cash converters here only ever seems to have cr@p at daft (daft meaning expensive) prices :(

There's a nasty cheap look about the headstock, definitely Chinese!

There something very dodgy about them, but as you say £149 seems pretty good.

oh yeah theyre definitely dodgy

you can tell that the logo has been added after the guitar was finished and then clearcoated over theyre raised somewhat

My guess is they could be rejected stock that was sold on cheap or something?

the ones in the shop had various flaws in the finish and or dents

ive been trying to research a similar guitar....will try post pics.....it also says 'Gibbo' and Love Rock model....i was told it was made by Tokai and very good copies.......could be just a generic chinese rip off tho.....very strange as the one i own plays like a dream and far better than any Epiphones ive tried, also far superior to any Fenders but ive never likes them anyway!........its very odd!!! i am trying to find out what i can about these.

i have an SG shape with 3 pick ups.....the neck is nice and wide....lush action....the finish is good also....nice set in neck, looks well made to my eyes!

i can see no signs of any Tokai logo being painted over and then re clear coating (not on mine anyway) it is a mystery tho and the thought crossed my mind. deffo a factory 2nd tho....maybe they had a small batch of them going cheap from China.....not seen any of these anywhere!!! a lawsuit may have freaked the makers out so only a trickle in the UK.....thats my theory  8)

altho she plays very well....screams in fact!...i intend on replacing all hardware+fitting a trem soon. cant get over how nice the neck feels.

My local cash convertors has about 7 or 8 of them in.

LPS & SGS all of them play pretty nice and they keep tempting me but at the end of the day i want a V
