A more aggressive/grinding AM?

Currently, I have an AM in a Schecter C-1 Classic (mahogany body, neck-thru w/maple top) and I love it: super tight, and awesome clarity. I'm putting a new set of pickups in an Ibanez SV-420, which has a thin Saber series mahogany body and a maple neck. I want something with some more grind/aggression in the mids, which leads me to believe I should try the painkiller. Any thoughts? I'm also open for recommendations for a neck pickup, but I might just be lazy and get a matched set.

It sounds to me like a War Pig would do the trick fairly well too. It is after all what the AM is based off.

Really?
Different wire gauges
Three ceramic magnets on the AM compared to the WP's lone alnico magnet

Granted they both have double row of screws going right through the baseplate which does beef up the low mids

but anyway - it depends where you'd like your mid grind to be - lower, middle or upper?

I was looking into the Warpig, but the DC Resistance seems to be WAY high (so it's hot with not much top end sparkle) and the bass seems like it would flub out on me. Granted, I only tune down to drop C (not drop H or any of that shite), so the bass might not be overwhelming.

As far as styles go, I'm shooting to have this guitar cover stuff like old/new hardcore, screamo like Ampere/Orchid, Powerviolence, and other fast-tempo stuff. I also like to randomly do lots of alt-picking meedley stuff a-la Pablo Gilberto.

Who knows, if these new pickups are more my thing than the AM, I might have to let it go to someone in the States!

EDIT: As far as grind goes, I guess it would be more mid? I'd be affraid that low-end grind might make it lose clarity, while high end would render it shrill.

I've not tried the painkiller so can't specifically comment on that, but I found the Miracle Man to have very grindy aggressive mids, particularly the lower mids. Fairly smoothish top end, big bottom end (doesn't flub, but isn't as surgical as the AM by a fair way). I play in Drop A, occasionally drop E, and the miracle man was pretty tight there (multiscale baritone though...).

Painkiller or Miracle Man would be the two options that spring to mind based purely on the 'grindy mids alternative to AM' requirement.

Painkiller would be good
Also - Ceramic Warpig would be good too
Ceramic magnet tightens up the bass flub a lot and adds a bit of crispness on the top end

I put a c-pig in my 7 string BC Rich.  It's a V with mahogany wings, maple neck through and ebony fretboard.  It offers a lot of bass and I messed about for a while trying to control it.  It's tuned to B and I've found it doesn't get muddy.  I was playing Fear Factory song Replica on the K-stein modelling on my 60 Watt Vypyr and it sounded good especially with my cr@ppy playing.  Really nice palm muted sound.  I've grown to love the c-pig especially now I have a better amp   :)

If you aren't already using a graphic EQ - buy one.  It will allow you to tune-in your grind in the mids.

I've actually got one built in to my amp (Mesa 2C+). I don't set it the usual way (which is to scoop the middle slider almost entirely);I scoop the middle slider just a little bit and up the shite out of the 2nd highest slider. I've got a pretty damn aggressive tone as-is, but I was wondering if there would be something "better" that the Painkiller has to offer.

Once again, not saying that the AM doesn't wreck all kinds of shite! I just need a second set of pickups for a new guitar, and I would feel rather silly to not try something different!

Painkiller screams grindy mids to me - the ones my mate had in his Les Paul did that.
