Awesome, so I guess Painkiller is the winner!

Now, what should I get to match it in the neck? I know the calibrated set is the "duh" choice, but does it have awesome clarity? I've got a humbucker from hell paired with the AM in the C-1 and it is a pretty cool combination (just a basis for what I'm talking about).

I really, really love my painkiller. just rememrber that it has to be ridicously close to the strings to show its real potential :-)

That's actually surprising to hear! I've read many people saying how finicky BKP's are to height, but most people seem to suggest keeping them pretty low. I've always had my pickups pretty low to begin with, so it was never an issue; in fact, when I first installed my AM, I levelled it pretty low (before I had even restrung it) and when I plugged it in, I found it to be perfect as-is.

So what do you use for the neck pickup? Does your guitar even have a neck pickup?

My neck pickup is disconnected on that g uitar. and the pickup is soldered directly to the jack input. the piickup is approximatly 4 mm from the strings

4mm is about the right distance from the strings in my experience, though I wouldn't say that is ridiculously close (just normal/optimal setting for a humbucker in my experience).

Dare I suggest the Miracle Man? I thought a lot of screamo bands use EMG... Painkiller could be too tight, not enough beef for you.

I think you might be thinking of the popular definition of "screamo", like underoath and stuff like that. Ampere / orchid / hot cross use single coils (pretty damn sure, or maybe humbs in parallel?).

Now, I'm more thinking about getting a set of VHII for that guitar, and adding a 5-way super-switch to get the most out of coil taps / parallel / whatev. Would I be crazy?

I'd love a guitar that could coax some old King's X tones, not to mention shite like Dillinger Escape Plan.

For an example of the tone I had pre-AM, check my soundcloud.

Oddly enough, that was recorded with a neck-model seymour duncan Jazz in the bridge (I took the stock JB out, moved the Jazz down, and put a humbucker from hell in the neck).

All the reviews of the VHII sounding very "single coil" are slowly convincing me... ALSO, feel like making a custom tele.
