Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates
« on: August 31, 2011, 02:39:58 PM »
Really starting to dig Billy Gibbons sound. I have been researching the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbuckers and they look quite good.

Aparently these are the ones Billy uses now on stage. Has anyone tried them? How do they compare to Bareknuckle pickups ie what would be the equivalent?

If I was looking to get that classic hot rodded Les Paul sound with a Marshall amp would these be a good choice?

I had a Pearly Gates bridge pickup years ago. It is quite bright and low output and has virtually no bass. I cannot give you a direct comparison with any BKP as both the pickup and the guitar are long gone.

They're Alnico II with a slightly hotter wind than the '59 - so on paper the BKP equivalent would be an AII Mule I guess.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I'd imagine an AII Riff Raff would be similar as well.

A5 riff raff sounds quite "Gibbonish" to me too
also, Angus Young's custom pickup is said to be similar to the pearly gates
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

AII Mule is probably the closest BKP, I loved the Custom Shop PGs I had in my Pearly Gates LP.
