I think I'd rather listen to a Doug Aldrich/Reb Beech guitar solo
Is that an indication of dissatisfaction with the last couple of Whitesnake albums?
No the albums are fine - just live Coverdale leaves the stage and we get 25 minutes of awful and I do mean awful solos
here is the review of the gig I did from the next day after their last gig:
Mondays Whitesnake gig at Hammersmith was a bit so-so - the first half hour was pretty good and you could feel the pace flag a little after that
The worst bit was the fricking guitar solos and then a drum solo
25 wasted minutes of utter rubbish - it's like they had been taking solo lessons from Kiss' Vinnie Vincent
25 minutes lost from a show that is only an hour and a half with so few songs played from anything pre 1987 is criminal
I would have been happier if the two guitarists (both of whom are very able and talented musicians) actually played something musical rather than the old see how fast I can play , my willy is bigger than your willy, type stuff that you see idiots playing at any guitar show.
Whitesnake are supposed to have a blues background - maybe they could have played some blues
Maybe they could have woven a few riffs and melodies from songs not on the setlist into what they played so that the audience could go - "Ah I know that one!"
I know it was to give Coverdales voice a break, but he should be ashamed that he didn't get them to do something tasteful.
After all the solos the show resumed but something was lost in terms of momentum
There were a few good tunes but others were massacred
Fool for your loving was out of tune and the timing was all over the place.
It was indeed nice to see Bernie Marsden, but sadly I didn't feel you could really hear him very well
And for fu*ks sake - Reb Beech needs to learn some new facial expressions - looked like he had cr@pped his pants from the way he was gurning all the time.
what's with all the def leppard hate? :?
I don't hate them - I hate more the fact that they released really daft "gumby" songs as singles that kind of sold well so now they feel obliged to play them every night.
There are some great songs on each of their albums which get overlooked and they end up playing
Lets get rocked, Make Love Like a man and such rubbish
They overlook great songs like Billys Got aGun, Stagefright , Mirror Mirror to play stupid dumb songs(that the record company probably made them put out)
I saw them on the Pyromania tour and they were ace, and the first Hysteria tour was good too - especially with Tesla supporting.
I also hate that big stupid screen that they have a constant cartoon and images thing running - like we are all so ADD that we can't just enjoy what the band are doing - they dont even show the band - just loads of flashing images that somehowconnect with the songs lyrics.
It really does detract from the gig in my opinion.
