Miracle Man for Charvel?
« on: September 05, 2011, 11:54:51 AM »
I want to swap out the stock JB/59 set in a Charvel San Dimas for a set of BKPs.
Originally wanted to put in a set of VHIIs, but Tim suggested a set of Miracle Man pickups might get me good results.
I like the idea of having more output but not 100% sure it won't be too shrill.

Anybody here have any experience with the MM in a superstrat style guitar?

I had a miracle man in my Ibanez (basswood). Glorious. :) I wouldn't describe it as shrill at all. Brutal, aggressive, punchy and grindy: yes, but shrill: no.

holy divers would sing in that san dimas I can tell ya, similar to satchel's tone from steel panther! miracle man pups will be higher output but not as organic, esp if you have a maple fingerboard

Maple fingerboard and alder body. Which is why I'm a bit wary of a very trebly pickup.

I already have a Holydiver in a Soloist. It would probably not sound quite the same in the Charvel, but I'd like to go for some variety. Holydiver is an option though...

if u like the hd in the soloist i suggest sticking to alnico pickups, you'll miss the dynamics if you go to ceramic. But saying that, the MM, is prob one of the more dynamic and organic ceramics. If I were in your shoes, I'd get the VHII calibrated set.

how about an alnico miracle man for a change?
sounds great on the bridge as well and you could convert it to ceramic if you don't like it
somewhat similar to the diver, but fatter and slightly hotter

I would also go for a HD over a MM as suggested. I never got along so well with the MM anyways.

Its quite a step in output from VHII's to MM's. Love the VHII in my ash strat. It's a great rock/old schoolmetal pickup, which works well in bolt-on-guiitars. The MM has way more grind and hair, from what I heard, but I don't have experience with it. Choice depends for a great deal on the musicstyle.

AlNiCo MM is out of the question, as per Tim.

Music style is hard rock/heavy metal, 80s style. Accept, Maiden, WASP...
I'll either go for Holydivers of VHIIs.

i would actually go for the Cold sweat for those bands or the MM if you want your tones to have that extra bit of pizazz!

I think the Miracle Man would be spot on for those tones, and you certainly shouldn't find it shrill

that's what i'd have thought, though admittedly i have mine in a mahogany/maple neck-thru V, and haven't tried the other options...

Dave, are you talking about the Miracle Man or the Cold Sweat?

Tim says the MM in a superstrat should deliver early George Lynch tone.

I have a Miracle Man in the bridge of my BC Rich Gunslinger (Alder body, Maple neck/fretboard) and don't find it shrill at all. I was going for a different take on the 80s Rock/Metal tone and as I already had Holydivers in my Ash bodied Patrick Eggle, Tim suggested a Miracle Man for a different 'flavour' and he was spot on  :D
