Cheers, I can be neat if I wire them in the box. Stuff that was built outside or is just damned complicated, not so much ;)

Yes, they are!  :D

yeah, i've tried the klon version and it's very nice. As juan solo says, though, the prices on those are crazy. what i always found pretty funny was that people said with the gain at 0 it was a clean boost... I mean, sure, that's nice, but if all you want is a clean boost you can get pretty nice clean boosts for like a quarter (maybe even less) than the price of a klon. I guess if you need it all in the one pedal and have no room on your board, maybe, but aside from that...

Mine sound best with the gain on around 1/3rd and the volume on 2/3rds.  A nice kick to the front end of the amp, with a bit of extra drive too.  Fantastic for solos as they add some extra harmonic goodness too  :D

What are they like into a totally clean amp as a lower gain OD?

I don't use it that way, so I've not experimented too much to be honest.  From what I've seen, most people use it a booster into an already cooking amp as I think that's what it's designed for.  It probably isn't great into a perfectly clean amp.

ah from what i remember it sounded pretty good that way. though as you say, most people probably use it more as a boost.

i was only able to try it into a clean amp so i probably didn't get giving it the best of tries. but i could tell it was nice.

I'm looking for something to use on the clean channel of my Splawn for lower gain OD tones as the amp has it's own boost for the OD channel so I wouldn't need it for that.

All of my fave go to ODs that I've always loved on other amps just don't seem to play nice with the Splawn for whatever reason.

How about a Box of Rock?  They're nice into clean channels...

I've seen vids of them and they do seem to sound awesome into NMV Marshalls and Fenders. I'll keep my eyes open for a cheap(er) 1 I think.

Could always nip around and try a load of stuff (we really have built shiteloads of the things). Plenty to go at and see what you like/don't like.

shiteeeeloads is an understatement!

Maybe a Wizard's Sleeve (don't ask) would work with the Splawn, having two gains for low and treble frequencies does make it very versatile.

Love the Klon clone - wonderful pedal (I have 2).
What diodes are you using in the G2 ?

1n60 from AMS in the States. The ones we sourced in the UK were a much lower forward voltage and the pedal ended up with far less gain. Phil King kindly picks them up for us :)

Thanks - I'll have to try and track some down - been meaning to build one for ages !!!!

I can probably rattle you together a few of them out of the last batch Phil sent us. If you decide to build one bob me a PM and I'll send you some.
