Im considering buying a fire hazard!

I have been considering doing a hot rodded marshall type amp for some time now.

This works out cheaper than buying the chassis & headshell seperately and i get some other "junk" parts too

very tempting

Oh no. The dreaded Bugera. I had one and it did burn through a molex connector. Very easy fix. Is it mod worthy? Probably. How much are you going to put into it? New trannies? How much time is it going to take you to produce a schematic from your PCB? Lots to consider. Those guys won't give you a scheme no matter what you tell them, trust me. All I did to my 333XL was stick in a new OT and it really kicked it in the pants well. That Chinese iron is cr@ppy, IMO. Of course, you could use the cr@ppy trannies for a workstation where you can develop your amps without worrying about the cost of the thing you just might overstress and destroy. I wish I would have kept that tranny now that I've typed the idea.

My plan was to gut it and use the headshell & chassis then build something on turrets.

I imagine the pots, switches & trannies will be junk but they will do for initial fire up & testing if i decide to go ahead with it.

it just looks like a tempting chassis & headshell offer to me!

Well, just promise that the bulldog badge comes off then.
I thought the Tolex job was perfectly acceptable on the 333XL. Can't go wrong if you are willing to mold your project to suit the existing chassis. I'm sure if you end up with an unused hole.... nah I'm gonna stop right there. Afghan might be reading.

The logo would be the first thing to come off...

I have however found an even better deal.

Ashdown Fallen Angel - £50

http://areyouexperienced.net/Bugera1960-Output-Transformer-Upgrade.htm

was just looking at this.
the 1960 seems ok and looks like it has a better looking headshell than the 1990.

the shielding cage seems a bit OTT. Input jacks are shielded too. Mounting the IEC on a PCB (if thats how its done) seems like a rubbish plan also.

that said... strip out all that nonsense and this does look like a great platform to build something good.

(even if you can get a £50 ashdown)
