New Pointy Day :oP
« on: September 15, 2011, 08:43:34 AM »

Wanted to downsize ... until this one came along ...

Couldn't resist, it was too big a steal.

US Charvel Pointy San Dimas 2005 custom shop reissue, quartersawn neck, compound radius, alder body, OFR, Duncans.

Neck is not as thin as one might think, it is thin compared to a Tyler, but has just enough beef to make the guitar resonate and sing. It's very loud acoustically, more so than my MM Axis and chords are transparent and lively, and it stays fat up the neck.

This one was a guilty pleasure buy, as it has the same colour as my first decent guitar back in the days, a 3A model from the late 80s. So I am coming full circle and I really enjoy playing this a lot. It's a great US Hot Rod. Colour is much better than in the pics, hard to get right without a decent lens.

Glad here is some love for 80s style superstrats.

Compared to the Pro Mods I tried last week, this feels like a different league right away the moment you pick it up.

I wonder if I'll see a need to replace the pickups. The  Duncans seemed actually very nice when i had a quick go yesterday ...

I have no cab here, so can't plug it in  :x

Those are pretty easy to have as for dealers the Tele types seem to be regarded kind of a shelf warmer (compared to the strat bodies that sell much better). You might get a good deal on one, then get an OFR and I'm sure it will be very cool indeed.

What do you guys reckon, should the pickups/frame be cream?

I'd stick with black, personally. That guitar looks perfect as is.

Not on blue.... if it was some shade of red I'd say yes to cream.

I'll be predictable and say it's not really my kind of thing - I keep wondering if one day I'll suddenly get superstrat GAS, but it's not happened yet! - but looks a nice guitar!  :D

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yeah Philly I thought it might not be your cup of tea. But it's a 2K$ guitar (though I paid nowhere near close to that) and it shows when you play it, it just oozes substance and quality.

Ok only thing I'll do to this is add a Tremol-no - I need it when I play dropD stuff with the band.
