Peavey Vypyr vs. Line 6 Spider IV?
« on: September 17, 2011, 11:16:25 AM »
OK, I'm getting myself a Peavey 6505 and Recto 4x12 cab, but I need a bedroom Solid State/Digital Amp for bedroom practice. Which one: Peavey Vypyr or Line 6 Spider IV?

don't they both use the same technology? - much of a muchness for a small SS practice amp imo.

don't be a weakling... just crank the 6505. If your ears aren't bleeding it's not worth hearing.

Haha. I just want something small for late hours of the night. So anybody here had experience with either of them? And if so, what do you think?

P.S. I'm not up for getting into a valve/digital debate btw, lol. I know valves are much better :) I just want something hi-gain and cheap, but decent quality

I've never been impressed by any Line 6 amp I've ever played. And I've tried plenty...
The Vypyr I played however sounded quite nice. It was one of the valve models though.

I was looking at the valve Vyper. I just don't want the hassle of tubes for this amp, tbh.

i don't see why it would be a hassle. it's only going to be a hassle if you want to start swapping them. just leave whatever it comes with inside it and don't mess with it.  if its staying in your bedroom then you don't need to worry so much about reliability, and if you're going to mess with the valves in your 6505 then you'll end up with some spares anyway. I think peavey use JJ's a lot so you should be ok.

The Fender Mustang IV doesn't sound bad at all and is real easy to use and manipulate. Also has USB, Aux and headphone jacks. Here is a decent vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_McsyKVFDPY . Most of the presets put too much 'verb and delay, but it is real easy to dial out. Played on one the other day sounds good for what it is.
The built in tuner in the thing is also REAL easy to read.
All I want to be is normally insane.

i looked at the vypyr .think the rolands the best of the 3, simple ,good and about 170quid.

I have a Line 6 Pod XT, as I am too poor to buy a real amp (I LOVE valves!  :*(  ) and all the places I've lived have paper-thin walls, so it's ideal for recording / using through computer speakers / headphones.

However, having tried most Line 6 "amps" out there, I have to say I absolutely loathe the way each and every one of them has sounded. Without even hearing the Vypyr, I'm almost tempted to tell you to go for that without even listening to a demo. Anything's better than a Line 6 amp.  :x

The Roland Cube XL40 is quite good at drive/distortion.
The Mustang is the way to go if want Fender-cleans.

Attenuator>SS amp. There should be at least 5 more thread like this. One is just not enough.

Cube, easily. I detest the vypyr (and have owned both, 30W versions)
