has anyone seen the new lines of les pauls and SGs?

scroll down on these pages and prepare to be disgusted aswell as angered at the new anaemic designs of the classics, aswell as the pure tackiness of them.

I'm also a bit pissed at Fender today but not as much. They've got a 60th anniversary stratocaster out this year... thats right - two years after their 50th anniversary stratocaster. however after a few seconds of research i realise that its to celebrate 60 years of Fender. They milk this stuff so hard its nipples are falling off.

Erm...i saw those models earlier today, I actually quite liked them. I dig all kinds of weird, slightly off-centre guitars, so I thought they were actually kinda alright...

I'm assuming we're talking about the Vixen, Goddess etc models? I didn't like that mirror one much though. Having said that, mirror finishes generally photograph pretty badly - but when you see them in person they are pretty cool.

Les pauls are so horrid to play on, easy one of the most difficult guitars to play imo, annoyingly difficult high fret access, generally sound bad, are too expensive, and look like granddad.

I like Gibson necks though, for some reason. But I'd generally agree with you - they can be awkward, can sound bad, have bad fret access...but, I don't know, they just look cool to me. And there is something quite satisfying about holding a nice, thick, heavy guitar in your hands. Having said that, I'm craving for a strat...

Is it me, or do most of the pictures look odd? What I mean is that the guitar looks out of proportion. Perhaps its bad HTML coding but they looked strange. I certainly didn't like the Menace models even though black is usually my thing - it looked like they were trying too hard.  The SG Supreme still looks a nice instrument though.

I think PRS ought to initiate legal action against Gibson for those double- cut Les Pauls.

Cant say I think the newer models look like much chop, but still.... they really have to do something. The Les Paul range is somewhat stale.

Look at all the variations of Les Paul in the Epi range or How many Fender Strat variations there are. The actual gibson lineup is pretty dull.

Fair enough the Rose Sunburst LP looks absolute shitee but the rest of them may well have there place.

After all somebody out there must be buying the Polka-dot strat.

that goddess SG looks horrible.some of the others dont look to bad.

i'd still never buy one even if i had all the money in the world though.

i was expecting Fender to release the broadcaster as the 60th annaversary model as the main one.thats the guitar that started it all apparently. i spose the strat is the most popular tho so they wud make more money out of using strats to 'celebrate' cough milk cough the occasion.

I would have thought a broadcaster might come out - especially now fender own Gretsch and copyright issues no longer prevail...

If you want 60s anniversary Fender surely it has to be a lap steel and box amp - or the prototype solid body Fender was lending out to session musicians in the 40s  :D

Mmmm dont like the new ranges at all. Having said that I own only two guitars.....both Gibsons a faded flying v and a 2000 Les Paul Standard honeyburst. The V is great to play and light and it sounds awesome coz its fitted with a set of Crawlers. The Les Paul will be fitted with Mules when funds allow. Anyway for what mho is worth and if anyone is interested a few pics can be viewed at http://photos.wanadoo.co.uk/album/2324601.

I like Les Pauls.  But, honestly, having so many variants is just silly.

I agree. I know they have to have options available, but I wonder what percentage of Gibson LP Players own anything other than Standards, Classics or Customs!

It's the same with Fender. Don't they offer something like 50 different models of Strat?!

What is that SG GT?  Have you seen the "intake" on the bridge?  Grrr...

Gibson make great guitars, but I'm now moving to Gordon Smiths as the better option.  Made in the UK, same style and power and cheaper.  Slot in some BKPs and get yourself a Gibson-beater  :D

I gotta admit, I don't mind the "Menace" ones, they're pretty cool I think, but at the same time, it's getting silly trying to revamp the Les Paul every few years. The "chick" versions are intresting, I'm sure they'll have their niche. But, considering their target market, and how most guitarists are guys, I don't think they'll sell, they'll accumulate value by becoming discontinued. I'm suprised that they did a new shape in the form of the Vegas, but I think Gibson needs to branch out a little more.

If I were to get another Gibson, it'd have to be pretty special, and would in all likelyhood be second hand.

what about this new thing supposedly being released soon by gibson- the "digital" model??? in theory the idea's cool- being able to produce each string of the guitar as it's own track- but it seems that it kind of takes away some of the satisfaction of playing guitar, as though things are become too modernized in a way.. what u think everyone???
