The BKP Official Bugera Thread

OK, I know these amps have received both praise and hate from many different people. But I thought I'd start a thread where people who own these amps can start posting their experiences with them, in the hope that people on a budget, or even people looking for a cheap backup, can come here to find out more.

I only discovered this brand about a 3 weeks ago when looking for a new Peavey 6505, and I have heard so many different stories about them. After quizzing many people who have had them, I found that about 95% of them who badmouthed the company were people who either had the old Bugeras which had the melting clip (this is now fixed), or people who just say they are unreliable from word of mouth about the old models, even though they've had no experience with the amps themselves. There's also a small congregation of Anti-Behringer people in there as well, haha.

So if people would like to post something, or comment, who have actually had experience with these amps - not just the Anti-Behringer cult, lol - please express your opinions. And yes before anyone says, they do have cr@p stock tubes, but nothing a new set won't cure :)

I think lots of people dislike Behringer because they pretty much rip off other people designs which means R&D costs can greatly be reduced on their street prices.  One is pretty much an exact copy of a Matcheless amp, but to be fair that's just a tweaked AC30 anyway.  It's just that everything Bheringer do is 90% somebody elses work.

Also, they make some pretty low quality pedals so people assume that their amps will be rubbish as well.
Most owners rave about their Bugera amps though, so they apparrently they sound well. 
Perhaps if they have sorted issues out and they are now good sounding and reliable, then they are perhaps a really good buy.

I've not tried one so can't say what they are like.  All I know is evrytime I've bought something really cheap I've ended up replacing it not long later.  Like my performance power drill

Nor bugera, but something that cheap getting cheaper I cant trust.

I would go for a used Peavey. Too many isseus have been with Bugera. At these selling prices you can't expect real quality.

If you can find me a used Peavey 6505/5150 for £250/300. Then I'll bloody buy it, lol. I can afford a new one, but I'm not buying an extra one as a backup head for the price, lol. I bloody would if I could get them for the price of a new Bugera though.

Apparantly they do. I've looked into that and I'm lucky that i have a Bugera Distributor Repair Guy in the same area. So would save shipping the amp off to Germany if it broke.

That makes it all a bit easier. When it's just your backup amp you might take the step.

That was just their first run that had the shoddy molex connectors. They aren't bad amps at all. I think the styling is cheesy and I wish they had made more effort in the circuitry, but that's a principle matter. I can't blame them for using cheaper trannies because of the price. I had a 333XL for 2 years and it gave me no problems except for the molex connector which was a 10 min fix. What are the chances you'll end up with one of those? Small if you buy used and nonexistent if you buy new. Can't say they are suitable for modding or upgrading. Bugera won't give out schematics which is kinda shitety when you think about the whole situation. If you only have cash for a SS amp or a Bugera, I'd get the Bugera without thinking. If it seems like you are going to be able to save for something that uses better components and is more easily repaired, do that. I guess Bugeras are the fat girls of guitar amps. Really fun until your friends see you with em.  :(

Most of my mates are either poor and in college, or just lazy and unemployed. So a Bugera would be like 'The God' of amps to them. you have to admit, it's a great piece of technology to get beginners to really understand the benefits of tubes. I remember the days I used to love my Line 6, but when turned up loud gigging, it would feedback like hell and sound like a razor blade. then I got a valve amp, it was thin at very low volumes, but just sounded better the more you cranked it. From then on, life was sweet ;)

Have heard the Bugera Triple X clone (or whatever it is) in person and it sounded rubbish, but maybe the guy just didn't know how to set up an amp. Have to say I'm intrigued by their plexi type models!

Yeah I saw the Trirec. They released a few at the beginning of they year, but they've put on hold their production line until November which is when all their amp will have the Infinium Technology. They also have the Magician which is based on the Mesa MK series. With Bugera, I think a good tube change will make the Trirec and magician sound great.

Regarding the Plexi models: I'm really interested in getting the Bugera 1960. I've always wanted an Yngwie-shred set up, and I already have the DOD 308 Overdrive. So them 2 with a Strat fitted with Trilogy Suites (if I'm right) would sound shred tastic :)

Sorry I misread it. U meant the Bugera 333. I've seen videos of this amp which sound good, and also vids that sound bad. But I say half of it is down to bad recording equipment. I've heard peavey amps sound like fizzy Solid State Amps when recorded. But I've seen some Bugera 333s on Youtube that sound bloody awesome.

Yeah that's the one, 333xl or something. It sounded rubbish in person (thin, weak, fizzy, harsh) so it's not the recording gear but could just be the person using it :)

Yup thats the Bugera 333/Xl without a tube change apparantly lol. I'm going for 6260, so I'll post a review up on here after a tube change. :0
