I got my Miracle Man! there's a little downside though
« on: October 16, 2011, 04:58:55 PM »
Okay, i have got the Miracle Man home and i am completely mind-#)¤("/". It sounds soo evil.
It looks soo neat too!
BUT i had to grind of some of the edges of the "screw-holder" on the side to even get the pick-up in my Jackson, which means that my chance of returning it is completely gone. That really bothered me!
What to do? I took the chance and grinded it and just hoped that it was a good pick-up.
Luckely it is a great faawking tone. All in all fantastic!

Screw-holder? Do you mean the bobbins? Or the legs?

Anyway, glad you like it!

It is a fairly common problem as many cavities are a little tight and Tim has insisted on the feet being EXACTLY as Gibson did their original ones - even down to the tooling marks, so that the more trainspotter-ish pickup fanatics would be kept happy along with the rest of us.

Sometimes we find it is just the VERY square corners of the feet and trim these just a bit to be able to get the pickups in

In fact I am in the process of having a special "trimming " tool made by the same engineer that made the baseplates for Tim to allow me to very neatly and consistently trim the feet for an easier fit on guitars where the pickups prove to be too tight.

Hopefully it will give a neat result so you wouldn't know a pickup had been modified but that allows it to fit easier

I was the same. had to trim the corners of the legs .

I also had to take a very little mount of wood for the neck. the cover was slightly too big

I had to use drill to make bigger hole to my guitar when my first BKP pup arived...I was lucky that I did not cut corners of legs because I wasn´t happy with tone and I sent it back to exchange for other pup...

I can see the point for what are essentially Gibson replica pickups like the Stormy Monday and Mule - but it seems a bit odd to insist on this on a modern pickup, especially when so many other non-original features are available, like distressed covers and coloured bobbins.
