Next one to be knuckled -> Fame Forum V Gothic
« on: October 17, 2011, 01:39:22 PM »
Hello guys,

my newest toy has to be knuckled cause I want to get rid of those awful EMGs in there.
The guitar is a Fame Forum V Gothic (built by Mayones in Poland) PRS Style, alder body, swamp ash top, maple set neck with rosewood fretboard. Pickupwise I currently use an EMG 60 neck and an EMG 85 in the bridge position. Ampwise I use a Bogner Überschall Head.

What do I want?
I want it more organic, more dynamic and not that much output especially in the neck position. The guitar itself is pretty middy and fat sounding...
Most important: I don't like ceramic magnets and the bridge pickup should not be "hotter" as the Rebel Yell in my LTD Viper or the Holydiver in my Caparison Dellinger.
I play mostly metal(core) like Killswitch Engage or Times of Grace type of stuff, the guitar is tuned down to Drop B.
Personally I was thinking about the Emerald, but do not have any experience with it...

So please help and give me some recommendations :-).

No recommendations for me?

I talked to Ben and he told me to go for a Nailbomb set with a C-Bomb in the Bridge. Is there anybody who can tell me something about the NB neck compared to an EMG 60?

Sorry, you'd better ask Nolly or others. You said you don't like ceramics, but get a recommendation for a C-Bomb, which surprises me a bit.

Well...
you could say that Ben and I don't really understand each other ;).
I am more the AlNiCo type of player, but there is no problem using a ceramic pickup if it fits my needs. The Painkiller I had before had too many highs and was too "piercing" for me, even with my low Tuning.

Maybe the alnico Nailbomb is tight enough for drop-B, though ceramics are usually tighter. The Rebel Yell has a leaner bass, but that could be an advantage in this tuning. Never read here anyone using the RY for drop B, but I hope other forummembers with downtune-experience will chime in.

I use the RY myself tuned down to Drop B or C in my LTD Viper, works fine! But the Viper is much darker than the Fame, so I don't know if the RY might be too bright, but it's definitely worth a try!

Made up my mind and searched the board and I will order a VHII neck and use my RY bridge for the Fame and order an Emerald bridge to put into my Viper, Nolly made me quite curious about it :). And if it works on the low strings in a 7 string it'll definitely work on Drop B!

Cheers, but in this case I'm afraid I cannot really help you out. Maybe you could pm Nolly. He played all the clips and knows a lot about BKP's. He owns a bunch of them and he plays downtuned too. Just as a last sec. opinion.
