Take cover... another NPD
« on: October 21, 2011, 02:58:10 PM »
My quest for weapons grade pedals continues...

Complete sonic destruction and far more usable than it has any right to be. It can totally nail a really, really nasty stoner doom type thing. THE nastiest fuzz I've ever heard. Then it can do bizzaro ring modulator stuff, wierd envelope effects and bit crushing glitchy nastiness.

Plus any pedal that comes with the following message as it's closing warning in the instructions has to be cool:

Use with caution, the maximum volume can be incredibly loud and awesome

Oh it's so up his street it's untrue. Should be interesting with a flanger after it, or the prometheus before it, or both... I'm going to have fun with this. What isn't captured in any of the clips on YT is the massive amount of bottom end grunt it has, yet it's not muffled at all (unless you want it to be). It can turn the cleanest nicest amp ever into pure and utter filth. Most likely practically unusable. My kind of pedal.

Selects a pre-set wave form, bit depth and sample rate. It has 16 pre-sets plus a 'lo-fi' mode on each that crushes it even more. It's essentially a user friendly version of the full blown Geiger Counter which has 200 selectable wave forms plus seperate the bit depth and sample rate on knobs. Apparently that can be a bit of a 'mare to dial in, so they made the Civ Issue with a load of pre-sets.

It's essentially a computer with an amp in front of it. As it's all surface mount there's no way of me making one. Even if you could get the chips, you'd not be able to get the code. Oh and it really needs a gate after it for some of the settings!

Yup, in the absence of being able to record clips:

I love that envelope synth sound. Have you tried a Zvex Fuzz Factory as I've got one and wonder how it compares?

Built a Wolf Computer clone (kind of a slightly more mad fuzz factory). It's quite a bit different. The GC is very harsh, but also very clear, if you see what I mean. You seem to get the whole frequency spectrum (and then some when it comes to the lows) in perfect clarity but utterly smothered and battered with digital dirt. It's definitely very much got it's own unique sound.
