New Turbo Day!
« on: October 21, 2011, 05:11:26 PM »
A little over two and a half weeks ago my car had plumes of smoke coming out of the back. After a trip to the garage it turned out that the whole turbo unit needed replacing. After a farcical gaffe by an overseas supplier the correct parts turned up today and got fitted.

Just in time for a trip down to Cornwall. A wallet busting £1250 literally up in smoke.  :(

my old man's had a few turbo cars over the years. they go like stink, but it always seems to be the turbo unit itself that goes wrong. hes a bit of a boy racer for being a pensioner ;)

anyway, i sympathise, i know turbos are expensive and relatively fragile things, plus the car is probably great fun, and you've been missing it.

what type of car is it, exactly?

Ha - it's certainly not a boy racer car, my days of that are almost certainly over! It's a Chrysler Grand Voyager. 8 seater. Ridiculous. It's a bit like being in control of the Galactica.

Yep - expensive parts and quite a long repair job = unhappy Ian. At least the car is back now and in working order.

Just thinking that money could have got me a nice guitar although Jane might not have seen it as an 'essential purchase'  :)

Just got my car back from repairs after turbo problems. Luckily it was just the EGR hose. Must have been gradually splitting for some time as performance was gradually falling off. Goes like hell now.

I came into this thread expecting something to do with Judas Priest...

I was initially disappointed, and started to think I might have to do something myself to bring the topic on track... but gwem saved the day. Nice one, never seen those before. There is something that I find "quaintly naff" about all that Priest have done - and I love them for it

Bummer on the unwanted bill though, Ian... :(

Well, a few short weeks after having a new turbo fitted it appears that there is ANOTHER problem with my car. I've now made the decision to move it on as is (will probably lose £4000 on what I paid for it) and buy a VW instead.

I'll be picking up a Sharan in the next few weeks. Unfortunate name for a car but allegedly very reliable.

Very very annoyed. That's a new guitar out of the question for at least a few more years now!

Cheers Dave. I guess I learnt a lesson in buying an American car. Won't be doing that again!

I'm trouble with my car too, but it's a '99 car... My simpathies for you!
