Pickups for new Les Paul?
« on: October 22, 2011, 07:30:18 PM »
I bought a Calibrated Black Battle Worn (Black Bolts) Miracle Man Set for my Les Paul not so long ago, but I have recently found another really nice Les Paul (Epiphone Les Paul Custom Midnight) which I've decided to put my BKP in that when I get it. So now my old Les Paul is in need of some pickups, and if I'm honest, I have no idea what to do with it regarding new pickups. Normally I'd get rid of any guitar in which I'm replacing, but this is the one I learnt on, so I'm kind of fond of it. I preferably want to keep it tuned to E Standard mind, since my other will be tuned to Drop C. Any ideas on what I could do to this guitar? Me personally is thinking I could use it as a guitar where I can jam to backing tracks/songs, soloing over the top, and mabye even record some of my own backing tracks. So mabye something that has a really, really, really good lead tone, but can also play rhythms -Distorted Powechords, Areppegiated Clean Chords, Strumming, etc. I'm not going to be playing anything heavy tbh, since I'll have my Miracle Man set for that: But it doesn't mean I won't be improvising over any heavy music either. (Just thought I'd mention this to open up my options to involve Vintage & Hot Vintage p/us) Just basically a nice home guitar in which i can jam on to build up my chops, when I'm not gigging playing Drop C Metal. Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

P.S. It is quite a dark and loud guitar. When I used to have an EMG 85 in the neck, the lower strings were very bassy.

Maybe a set of RiffRaffs, rocky, punchy, will brighten up a dark guitar and are tight enough for metal too. If you like Steve Stevens tone and want more output the Rebel Yells are to look at.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Yh, I had a set of Rebel Yells. Really not a Steve Stevens fan at all, but great pickups. I'm more looking for a nice fat Lead Pickup. Like I said, it's to jam with, so I'm looking more for something I can express myself with, in the comforts of my own home. Nothing mega metal. Just a beautiful sounding pickup that can handle slow heartfelt solos to shredding :)

I'm actually really considering the Riff Raffs now. I've heard everyone rave about The Mules too, but I still like the sound of Riff Raffs more. How are they at playing Power Metal as well?
