NPD.....
« on: October 22, 2011, 11:37:26 PM »
My delay pedal cr@pped out last weekend and whist it's being sent back to the USofA for repair I went looking for a new pedal as we have a Bonfire night gig. I tried a few... Aquapuss, Carbon copy, Flashback, Eventide, EH, Ibanez and Strymon. Well I went home with the Carbon copy and then very quickly took it back and pulled the trigger on the Strymon El Capistan. I didn't plan on spending that much but it's just a beautiful sounding pedal with loads of cool adjustments and it's the first time in ages that any piece of gear has really inspired me. I'm just in the process of sorting out my board and tidying all the cables up and mounting the power supply underneath.

Congrats! The Strymon is impressive, as are most pedals of this brand.

Cheers fella's. Yeah it is very impressive for sure. I'm never really bothered about pedals, only guitars and amps, but this one is exceptional. There are various modes for the delay alone but when you add in "tape age" and "wow/ flutter" you really can hear the repeats going slightly off time and with that kind of out of tune modulation effect you get with old tape echos..... it's awesome.

I have one and love the sound.  Get the favourites pedal (or a Nose pedal - look on ebay), you can either set up a sound you love, or use the Nose as an expression pedal.

Cool, thanks Phil. I'll check them out... just trying to get my pedal board sorted out as I recently got a pedal power 2.

congrats. i'm currently in a similar situation but for a reverb, it's the strymon blue sky or the tc hall of fame.
i think i'll cheap out and go for the hof. whether i whisk it back to the shop and change it after trying
              is another matter.
the strymon delay does look awesome on youtube. have fun.

The Strymon is great, but the TC delivers most bang for the bucks, I think.

The Strymon is good.

The Carbon Copy has a bit of reputation of breaking down.

the only thing that steers me away from the strymons is they seem to be a bit complicated(too many controls) and
seem to do too much wierd stuff.(sorry for hi jack)

Excellent, I really like this pedal.  I need a delay pedal and it's top of the list.

The Belcat one os the only one currently in budget though......

I agree that there are many excellent delay pedals that are alot less money, but the sound quality is astounding. I'm not flush with cash and infact had to make tough decision on whether to offload some other choice pedals but it was definately worth it so long as it proves to be a solid reliable pedal. And when my delay that is being repaired returns I'll have 2 completely different but fantastic sounding pedals.

If money is not an issue, Strymon is on top of the list. I especially like the long reverbs. They sound like strings.

The Strymon is good.

The Carbon Copy has a bit of reputation of breaking down.

Apologies for the slight threadnomancy but as my Carbon Copy put its paws in the air today I'm curious to know whether the Strymon is still delivering the goods and is still the current weapon of choice delay-wise?

I got my Carbon Copy when they were first released (so before it had the opportunity to earn its flakey rep) and I've enjoyed the tone but given my experience, and that of others reliability wise, I shan't buy another.
