Advice for swamp ash guitar
« on: October 27, 2011, 02:44:33 PM »
Now I sale my Jackson USA dragon and want to built a guitar.
My plan is:
-swamp ash body (35mm)
-bolt-on maple neck
-ebony fingerboard
-myrtlewood top (5mm)

My tuning is dropA and play modern metal, metalcore so need percussive very quick and dynamic raw sound.
This guitar will have no compromise, just will be a $%&#in' destroyer.
I have an Aftermath in my full koa axe and I love the AM but koa has not enough bite and too bassy.

What BK model do you advice for me?

Thanks a lot!

Perhaps a ceramic Nailbomb or a C-Pig.

I have some model in my mind, but don't know how they sounds in swamp ash with maple bolt-on neck (26.0 inch) drop A tuning:

-Aftermath (love the tightness and clear sound)
-Ceramic Nailbomb (Tim's advice, love the raw sound of it)
-Rebel Yell (I heard it in Nolly's music, it's awesome, tight, but not so clinical, it has raw sound)

I own an Aftermath. What's the difference between the 3 pickups?

RY might be too bright and too uppermid-emphasized in smampash/ebony board. I'd stick to Tim's advice.

Ok, so Rebel Yell is out.
Aftermath or Ceramic Nailbomb.

My experience is swamp ash and maple has great hi-mid. Aftermath has stronger lo-mid and I think it will work together well but I thinking a lot about C-bomb cause I don't want steril sound and it has organic character.

Aftermath is quite dry and has enormous pickattack, if you like that, this one could be for you. But if you want it organic you could also opt for an alnico Nailbomb.

I've heard the Black Dog sound sample. It sounds much better for me than Nailbomb. BD cut through the mix very well and nice bass and huge mids. I think Devildriver's guitarist use Black Dog in his Les Paul which is all mahogany and sounds cool.

How will it work with swamp ash/maple bolt-on?

Thank's!

BD is quite middy, so will beef up the guitar. Mind you is has PAF-character,  not really a contemporary tone.
