'Which H-S pickups for Jackson CS Soloist - Progressive Metal

Hi everybody,

I am looking for advices on BKP pickups.

I've had Aftermath (on Other Jackson), cool pickup but not my cup of tea.

Actually I have a Jackson Soloist CS run into an Axe-Fx with a pair of Yamaha HS 50M

Specs:

Neckthru
Maple Neck
Poplar Body
Ebony Fingerboard
HS Config

I would like to change all my pickups.

I play mostly metal (a lot of styles) but I have a better for the progressive or mathcore stuff, like Sikth, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me etc etc.

I have in mind a tone with, tight bass not muddy, with sharp trebles and upper mids. Modern but with a little side of Vintage (for the bridge).

For the neck I prefer you advise me.

Sounds like you're after a Miracle Man or A Ceramic Nailbomb. I'd prob go with the C-Bomb though. When I had an Aftermath, I just thought it was wayyy to tight, which kind of gave me that Djent sound, which tbh, isn't my cup of tea. I got my Miracle Man, & whilst I really like it; it sort of had a sound like it was stuck midway on a wah pedal. The C-Bomb was exactly what I'd be looking for. I actually got it to cover Progressive Metal tones. To me it just had that grind combined with clarity, tightness (not to extent of Djent) and an organic flavour. The Alnico Bomb is also very tight (quite shocking tbh) which you may like, since it has a tad bit more mids; but you say you mainly play metal, so Ceramic is the Way to go :)

I'm personally not familiar with neck pickups, but I'd say the Trilogy Suite. The Sinner may be a bit to powerful to match the bridge. And yeah they will both play in B tuning. I'd say go for the Nailbomb. It gives you exactly what you're wanting. especially in the organic sounding department. I don;t find the Miracle Man to sound that organic - well when comparing to the Nailbomb.

Oh yh dw, I know it was for other people too, lol. You must have misunderstood me, haha. Try changing your Thread's Subject to something like 'Which H-S pickups for Jackson Soloist - Progressive Metal' or something like that. It may attract a few more people who have some experience in what your after :)

For the styles you mentioned and the tonal wish list I would look at - in no particular order - Cold Sweat, Ceramic Nailbomb and Miracle Man for the bridge.

For the neck pickup I would use one of the loud single coils, i.e. Trilogy Suite or Sinner.

I think a Miracle Man will be a bad idea for what you described. You said you want the upper mids, were the Miracle Man is focused on the lower mids. And it definitely won't give you that kind of Vintage extra you was after. That's why the Ceramic Nailbomb is your best bet. It is exactly what you described. Plus the Miracle Man has that sort of sound were it sounds like its constantly set inbetween on a wah pedal. I guess that's what Tim means by it has a vowel sound. I bought a Miracle Man, for exactly the same stuff as you described to put in a maple neck thru, alder body guitar, but it turned out the Ceramic Nailbomb was what I was actually looking for. The Miracle Man sounded great in my Les Paul, but I just thought it was lacking in my Alder guitar :/ I think the Nailbomb just tracks down Progressive metal in alder so much better since it has them nice Uppermids, complimented by a bit of grind. It will also add a bit more body to your guitar.
