Have any of you got them songs that you play when you go into a guitar shop, in which you never listen to, and more or less never play it at home?

When at home I play everything from Jazz to Metal. I also improvise like hell and could track down hours of tape: But when in a guitar shop, trying out an amp or guitar, my mind just goes blank and I play the most stereotypical songs that Guitar Shop's love to hate, haha.

What are your Guitar Shop songs?

Whenever I try a guitar in a shop, I forget everything I know :?
Usually, after a couple of minutes of fumbling around like a total noob I do some Ted Nugent, Thin Lizzy or Judas Priest riffs and licks. If I really get to spend some time with the instrument I'll warm up and do some tunes from the band's repertoire.
The thing is, I do play those at home, and listen to them as well...
Hey Nonny Nonny mylord!

i dunno if there's anything that i never play at home, but i definitely get that "mind going blank" thing which is very annoying.

Also i'm very self-conscious, so i don't play a lot of the stuff i do know in case it's that stereotypical guitar shop stuff that they hate

Always end up playing "Ode to joy" or "Summertime"....no matter how inappropriate the guitar or amp settings.
It wasn't a mistake, it was chromaticism, I swear.

It depends on the guitar too. When I pick up an ES, it doesn't invite me to shred. I usually do some funk, blues, pop and jazz for the cleans, and classic rock to heavy rock with drive. Chic, Joss Stone, Chili Peppers, SRV, Warren Haynes, Muse, whatever the mood is.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I just muck about playing blues licks and little riffs with double stops and open strings, to see how the thing resonates.

Conceals the fact that I don't know any songs anyway.  :|
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Me too. Almost. I like to mess around chugging palms mutes and pinches and stuff. Never actually play any songs. If I can't make my mind up within a few mins of tweaking, I know it's not for me and I'm about to fool myself into buying something stupid.

I only feel I can properly assess a guitar once I've played all of 'Passion and Warfare' on it in the shop...

...or maybe just some chords and a bit of blooze noodling.
