NGD;- LP Melody Maker joins my other one.
« on: November 02, 2011, 11:44:49 AM »
I have always had a preference for Fenders, particularly Teles, but recently, I have crossed over to playing and looking out for the lower end Gibsons and similar, being attarcted by their lighter weight, simplicity and even scale length too.

I have had a lowly Melody Maker ReIssue for a while, which I love with its chunky neck, its lairy pickup and its no-nonsense approach.

I have been on the lookout for an LP Jnr to augment it, but was finding them to be a bit out of my price range ( I sold one of my heavy Teles so that set the budget)

Then I came across this on Gumtree.

2007 Les Paul Melody Maker.

Lovely Gibby P90, nice chunkyish neck, very responsive controls (just like the other MM).

Superb little guitar for a great price.

Now have two Gibson MMs

Did a couple of mods to it. Put a new nut on it and widened the string spacing to use a bit more of the neck real estate. Added some new knobs. And finally a nice LP Jnr Pickguard I got from the US

I reckon I have got about 95% of a Junior for about 1/3 of the price.

Nice!  :D

I love Juniors, you can't beat 'em.  Never quite understood why they called those particular models Melody Makers, since they're closer to Juniors, but I don't suppose it matters really!

very nice.

i liked those Melody Makers when they came out, although they were initially very expensive.  in Belfast they were about £650!  they soon realised they weren't going to sell them at that price though.

i like what you've done with it, very tasteful.  have fun ;)

Oh that looks great, really very nice indeed and your mods have put the icing on the cake. The cheaper Gibsons are such beautiful, no nonsense, rock and roll machines it always pains me that I've never managed to get on with them.

I know what you mean about being a Fender person but having a hankering to try something of the opposition's that you like. I have a NGD today with a similar thought behind it... ;)

Did a bit of a makeover (Melody Makeover??) on the other black one I have with a pickguard blank and a few hand tools.

Not quite a matching set of these two lairy guitars, but not far off

I like that red one! GAS!!!! I probably wouldn't get on with it though!

I think I prefer the original pickguard on the black one, the new one might be a grower though so I'll report back in a few days.

I think I hate being indecisive.
