P90 install for hum cancelling

I've got a P92 bridge coming in the post soon. I am swapping out a seymour duncan P90 bridge on a McCarty PRS. In original spec the middle pup selection is Hum cancelling, so will this be the case with the new PUP too? or do I need to turn the pickup around or something? So for the dumb question... have iron will solder... and make a mess.

It'll only be hum-cancelling if the BKP is reverse wound, reverse polarity (RWRP) as compared with the neck pickup.  I don't know if BKP wind their P-90s in the same way as Duncans or not.

Turning the pickup round wouldn't make any difference.

If you find it's NOT hum-cancelling, you could move the Duncan bridge pickup to the neck position.  That should work.

I find that BKPs are opposite polarity to anything else I've paired them up with - is that the secret to the recipe???  :lol:

So that being the case, it probably won't be hum-cancelling with the Duncan neck pickup.

yeah looks like I am losing that 'feature' for now.

Bit curious as to how it'll sound though. Its replacing a seymour duncan custom sp90-3 (which is a hot p90 circa 12k with large ceramic magnet). The p92 was a steal second hand so had to be bought (this one only measures 8.4k).

I'd resigned myself to a cap and wiring change only but I've had such good results on other guitars that i'd thought i'd give this ago. I can see myself in the not too distant future ordering a rwrp bk-90 to match it up with.

Just waiting for my new cap to arrive before I install the pup (curse you USPS).

Well my vitamin q arrived today (great cap) and in the new P90 went. Surprise surprise it's still hum cancelling in middle. So anyone who wants to know - the PRS mccarty neck is the RWRP pickup.

speaking of P90s, I'm seriously considering a MQ for the bridge of my Les Paul to match the one in the neck - wonder if they still get FAT like a humbucker if you roll off some tone on the guitar (the neck MQ does this and thats what I love about it, flexibility - plus of course amazing tone).

Haven't played my MQs for a while, but yes, it does fatten up like the neck does. I'm not sure how it compares to a bridge humbucker - I don't really do this with humbuckers - but it certainly fattens up like a tele or strat single does.
