A litte doubt about the miracle man ( emg comparation )

I have heard that the miracle man seems to be very close to emg 81 but in a passive way but in some places people have told that it is closer to the emg 85 than the 81...who have the right?

The Miracle man brings you the feel of a rectifier/emg 81 setup. Enormous low mids. Like tapped tetosterone of what makes a humbucker a humbucker apart from a single coil.

For me the comparison ends there. They sound miles apart in many ways. And well yeah it sounds a little bit more like the 85. But the 85 is just D E A D sounding. if you dig in, its still the same with the 85 imho.

the 85 is utterly lifeless and without any dynamics.

The MM has its own tone, which does bear some resemblance to the EMG81, but it's a different animal overall. The recommendation is usually that it is "closer" to the EMG81 than other BKP, not that it is a "clone".

The top end is more aggressive with more harmonics and the low end is vastly superior to the EMG. The midrange is kinda similar, maybe a bit less percussive on the upper mids than the EMG.

I have just found that if you replace an EMG 81 with a Miracle Man you are usually over the moon with it - especially as it fills out frequencies that the EMG 81 was just a bit too light on (like the low mids and bottom end)

The MM still remains my favourite pickup for many things

Same here.

The only thing i noticed switching was a drop in output and tightness (but not much) and if i want to get those back i just stick a clean boost in front of the amp

absolutely agree. I feel the MM is scooped esp in the upper mids compared to emg 81, has comparable as opposed to a lot more bass, a nicer grunt in the lower register, but a more 'sharp' but sweet and organic top end than the EMG. I found the neck MM having difficulty cutting through a live band mix unless the mids on your amp are cranked. PK is a lot more similar to the EMG81, but has more dynamics and less forigiving because of it's amazing clarity.

the texture is way too different

I don't get it either. You can get scooped sounds with it but you will need help from the amp - as you would with any pickup.

tbh no BKP i've played has ever come across scooped when i've been playing them.

I think relaxed upper mids would be a better term

when I think of a true mid scooped pickup, I think of a bill lawrence L500XL or duncan '59, maybe a '57 classic
the miracle man is just bass and low mid heavy with some strong treble bite, but doesn't lack midrange

If you want EMG tone in a passive pickup, look towards Lace pickups. They're supposed to sound like massive EMGs with a bit more character. It has much to do with trading copper for aluminium, as this produces a wider low-end and a punchier mid-range compared to the average passive.
