i thought charvel might offer something, but closest i can find is this
http://www.charvel.com/en-GB/guitars//search.php?partno=2927803899

that's what i was thinking of :)

They sound better than a Floyd though.  And they're not as ludicrously difficult to set up or re-string.

I dunno... they sound different from a strat trem. I love the sound of a strat trem, but if i were playing 80s rock and metal i'd probably prefer the sound of a floyd.

Yeah, I'm just thinking of the way they affect the guitar's (acoustic) tone and sustain.  Performance-wise, I'm sure the Floyd delivers the goods.  If you like that sort of thing.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Most Musicman Silhouettes have a HSS-set up with a fixed bridge.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

That's true - or rather it's an option, you can get them either hardtail or with a trem.

I've no idea how much this guitar cost, but I had an Ibanez Prestige in for some wiring repair recently and I was really impressed by the playability and also the tone of both the single coils and the humbucker.  Worth a look.

Buy a HSS strat and lock the trem down?

Works for me

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards that.

Either that or just going "Ah, $%&# it" and put Piledrivers in a Mexi-Tele!

I must say the trem on my HSS American Series-strat is very stable. A good setup is worth the money.  :D

For me, too - on the Frankenstrat with a single humbucker I just screwed the springs as far back as I could. That bridge moves nowhere.

Cheers Stephan

i was talking about the tone, too. Sometimes the bent steel saddle strat-style trems can sound a wee bit... wimpy, for want of a better word, if you're playing heavier stuff.

They sound awesome for more vintage tones, though, I'm not slagging them off or anything. There's an awesome sparkle off those strat-style trems. :)

perfomance-wise- yeah a (quality) floyd trem is just awesome.

The best mod I ever made to a strat was fitting heavy brass saddles. I couldn't believe the amount of improvement, I might hunt some down and fit them to my strats now.
