NGD, once again
« on: November 10, 2011, 08:42:10 PM »
Bless me for I have GASed... Didn't really need it, but it sounded good, played nice despite being in an urgent need of a serious setup, and well, it was a good deal:

1994/95 MiJ ST62 strat, upgraded with a US pickguard loaded with Texas Special pups and CTS pots, and a US bridge (original pickguard and bridge included - just what I needed to finish a partcaster for my son). It has a couple dings but is mostly in good state and well, it's a good player. Got it for 350€, which is way below the current market price (could easily sell it "as is" for 450€ on the local market).

Don't know yet if I will stay with the Texas Special or go for BKP once again - I'll have to do a whole setup and the usual bit of rewiring (PIO cap 50s style wiring, and moving the tone pots to mid/bridge pups) and play it a bit more.

Anyway - I really didn't need a strat (never been a strat guy), but me happy  8)

Nice one :D

My CIJ started off with Texas Specials. It's been through ITs, Sultans, and now has Apaches. I don't mind the Texas Specials, but once I'd started trying BKPs I wouldn't put them back in!

Thanks guy  8)

Gave it a fist setup this afternoon - neck relief, action, intonation, pickups height etc -, and rewired it (PIO cap, gibson 50s style wiring, and moved the tone pots to the mid and bridge pups). It plays really well now even if there's still room for improvement. Not fully satisfied with the wiring job, I'll probably change the .047 cap for a .022 one and go for a single master tone.

wrt/ the Texas special, they are good pups for sure, but I'm not sure that's the strat tones I'm after - a bit too harsh and fizzy, I'd say. I'd prefer a somewhat less abrasive tone, and I'll possibly get myself some Apache or Sultan set instead. Looking for some these "classic" strat clean tones, and a smooth overdrive if possible.
