Yeps,that's  "new tubes day".

My HRDx power tubes were dying (stock GT tubes, 6 years old now) and I had some microphonic preamp tube so I ordered a JJ 6V6S pair, two JJ ECC83S (one balanced for the PI) and a JJ 7025 for V1. It was my very first power tube swap and I was a bit worried about the biasing part but the HRDx made it a piece of cake (thanks to the bias test point and bias trim).

Huge improvement wrt/ tone - whether clean, crunch and overdrive - and volume - still freaking loud when you crank it but way more manageable at lower levels, and the transition to overdrive is more progressive. The power amp crunch is way less harsh than it was with the 6L6 - the lows are tighter and more defined, the mids less scooped and the highs a bit smoother yet still sharp - and the drive channel is _way_ better.

Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

Good deal! Have never read a hands on review of the JJ 6V6s before. Thanks.

I have JJ 6V6's in my Orange Rockerverb-head and they produce a big, round tone. Crunch is excellent, where the EH's started to distort earlier and with more (unwanted) sizzle. With the vol.knob on the guitar I can go now from clean to a big dynamic satured tone. Great tubes.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Are these 6V6's or 6V6S's ?-)

Well, I wouldn't call this a proper review - "first impressions" at most - and I definitly don't have enough background with various tube models and vendors to do much more.  All I can say is that this new set makes the HRDx a way better amp - unless you're looking for maximum clean headroom, that is ;)

Now even the clean tones are IMHO better , I can only agree with Telerocker about the "big, round tone".

Ooops, I think they are 6V6 (without S).

I think the only JJ 6V6 is the 6V6S... maybe im wrong.
It's a bit like a small 6L6. It handles beefy voltages like no other 6V6.
