Is it similar to the Xotic EP booster?

I've just ordered the parts in to knock one of these up and hopefully the IC's will arrive before the weekend so i should be able to give you my actual feedback on sat/sun

No. The Xotic EP booster's main feature is the subtle harmonic content it adds to the signal. The BBE realigns the high and low frequencies so they hit the speaker at the same time.

just get the sonic stomp, cheap, small, you won't know till you hear it, it's great! esp for tightening up bass if you're a metal player/chugger. The best analogy I can think of it's like upgrading from a seymour duncan to a BKP, more clarity and sparkle for clean and distortion. If you don't use it right you will end up scooping your tone, unless you want that. Dials at 12 o'clock work fine and are a starting point. I sometimes notch up the bass to 1-2 o'clock. It's an 'always on' type of pedal. Works best for me in my serial loop of my engl or marshall.
