i helped someone out with one - he brought it as a first project hoping to be able to bolt it together and get a playable guitars.  obviously it was not that simple.

needed quite a bit of fret and nut work  to get it playing ok.  I also felt the neck could do with a bit more carve - it was on the chubby side, and i generally like fat necks

bit weighty too, the woods are not as advertised.  they may say ash body but its darker and coarser than most ashes i have worked with

overall, i dunno.  I like the idea of good priced kits as learning experiences... but for value for money, playability and sound - a squier would be a much better choice
