NGD - TABBY BOBCAT
« on: November 16, 2011, 09:38:06 PM »

A sweet little semi/thinline here...... the first of two similar guitars
This has a mahogany body , and a three piece mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard - with Dunlop 6100 frets

The body is chambered  giving a weight that is not unlike a typical strat - which is good when you consider the weight that mahogany can add.
We added a sculpted heel to both the body and the neck to give an easy unfettered access to the top end of the fingerboard  - seems to be our obsession

We chose to use a strongly flamed book-matched (fiddleback) sycamore as a front fascia which you can see took a nice sunburst staining.
Hardware  is sperzel machineheads, a Hipshot bridge ,and an  earvana nut.
Electronics involve 2 BKP/CTS 550k pots, an oil and paper cap , switchcraft jack in an electrosocket

Pickups are BKP Mississippi Queens with black casings

Did you get the name Bobcat after I suggested it for your 339 build... or is this just a case of great minds think alike?  8)

No - it was something that we had  in place for this guitar for a while - it was a design  specced out by a guy called Bob
Simple really...but also the reason we couldn't use that name for the 339 style guitar

Ok I'll let you off... sometimes I regret being a Rob, and not a Bob. Just sayin'

p.s. i imagine this guitar sat on the belly of Steve Cropper

It's great - nice and chimey but also fat and bluesy at the same

I'll tell Andy who  this one is for - he'd probably be amused by the idea as long as Mr Cropper gives it back.

And that's a big belly to sit on!

Lovely guitar!  The colour looks particularly excellent, as usual.  I think bold colours are a bit of a Feline trademark.

Mmmm, great tele with lovely colours. I like the concept totally, very nice, however the black hardware is not quite my taste.

I'd happily make one with chrome parts or gold parts :D

This is actually what I've recently been thinking about; maybe the ultimate compromise for me. If you wanna call it that. Soundwise, I tend to the LP-style of crunch; I like that thickness. But at the same time, I love the Fender-style tone.

So; that punch and twang that the Tele shape has, combined with the LP-style materials -> should be thick and clear, with excellent cleans too.

Add to that some comfort contours (like the guitar in the topic), you just might have a winner :)
