N P A D (New practice amp day)
« on: November 27, 2011, 05:16:52 PM »
Got a new practice/recording amp to go with my Ibanez Artcore AS103 today.
It's an Ibanez TSA15H valve head (2x 12AX7 + 2x 6V6GT), with a built in '808 Tubescreamer' board.
I am running it through a Cicognani Brutus 1x12 cab (fitted with a Jensen Vintage speaker).
The amp output power is switchable between 5 watts (triode mode) and 15 watts (pentode mode).
As well as the Tubescreamer OD circuit there is a separate 6db boost switch. The amp also has
FX send and return jacks.
This amp rocks, and at just over £200, is great value for money !!

I like the concept.  Does it sound good at really low volume?

These amps have been round for a while now and I expected them to be much more popular than they seem to be.

Glad you're liking yours.

Looks good.  Fifteen watts sounds pretty giggable, particularly with the sort of stuff I play.

Clips?

I must admit that when these came out I thought they looked a bit novelty. Clips would be great!
I think I hate being indecisive.

I heard some clips on the net and they didn't do it for me, but YT is not a good reference I guess.

When you are a state pensioner, and just want a practice amp for the front room of your warden assisted flat,
then £200 for a 'proper' valve amp (with a £170 built in OD circuit), is very attractive.
Novelty by the standards of say a Mesa Mini Rectifier head it may be  :(  ...but then perhaps I should have mentioned my circumstances in the original post  :|

Yes Phill, it's pretty good both clean and overdriven on the 5 watt setting with the output volume rolled right back.
At least the old biddy in the flat above has not been hammering the floor with her Zimmer lately ; and she used to when I ran my Blues Junior  8)

I think the reason they haven't been more popular is because they seem to be quite difficult to get hold of, and
Headstock Distribution don't seem to be very 'pro active' when it come to some Ibanez products.

I will try and do a couple of clips (clean and dirty) for Sound Cloud, in the next couple of days....

Fair enough. Maybe I should try one when in see one in a shop. Price is attractive, I must admit.

An interesting amp indeed. I was checking them out recently and I was impressed by the clips. Looks pretty cool too and a great price.

What sort of music do you play?

Blues, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, BUT I suffered from a stroke a while back with, amongst other things, the right side
of my body completely paralysed  :(
After a year of physiotherapy in the hospital, I am continuing with my own therepy at home, of RE learning and
playing guitar !
I have started to write and record stuff again, and it is all SLOWLY coming back  :)

Ouch, that's not good to hear. I hope you recover soon and get those hands sweeping over the neck again.  :)

Speedy recovery Fred. Looks like a great guitar you have there. I played a couple a while back and they were great to play.

If, indeed, you could ever do that!

All the best for a continuing recovery!
