I'd try and strike a deal with HTH or Toe-knee here, since you are in the UK. A Framus design(as well as a few others) can be built on a Soldano SLO board so I can't see any issue with sourcing and you'd have the ability to have them customize the circuitry to your needs post-build or even spitball some changes pre-build with your input. Can't really beat that, IMO. Now if you were in the US where 5150s sell used for $5-600 all day, I'd suggest otherwise depending on your cash/quality needs.

How much would I be looking at do you reckon? Also can amp manufacturers actually nail the 6505 tone, as well as adding some extra unique features?

Price would not be something I could comment on. Yes, a small custom builder should be able to nail any tone in that vein for you. Amplifiers are much more of a fluid thing than you'd think in the hands of a competent tech. The hard part isn't making the change so much as making the decision to stick with it. I submit this thread as evidence.

bugeras are supposedly pretty closely based on them as long as you don't mind playing guitar while on fire :o

Framus Cobra. Save a little more for new or buy used. It shares a bit of circuitry with the 5150/6505 with the cold clipping gain stage and all, but it has an actual clean channel instead of the 5150/6505's neutered lead channel.

Iīve had Dragon then Cobra..Itīs SLO clone same as Peavey but 5150 sounds much better....Also itīs build better....
have CWP,MM...had AM,CS,VHII,NB,PK,HD...

He said he wants more flexibility than the Peavey offerings and "better" is subject to many factors. I'm sure he'd like to read the details of your overall experience, the differences you heard, the other gear in the equation, and the tones you were able to obtain.

the 5150 isn't that much of a 'clone' of the SLO. There are some similarities and some big differences.
The bugera is going to be the closest thing. really, if you want a something like a 5150 you may as well get a 5150.

If you want a versatile amp with a lead channel exactly like a 5150, I don't think one exists.

this is the 3rd or 4th thread like this in recent months isn't it?

I would have commented them if I'd found them. Have you any links to them?

And if it doesn't exist, I guess I'm left with the option of getting something custom made, or getting 2 separate heads :/

I'm surprised Peavey hasn't remade the 6505 series to have a better clean channel tbh. Does anyone know how the 6505 compares to the XXX/JSX? Soundwise, not feature wise.

Right...Framus looks versatile because it has 3 channels with independent controls..It has exellent clean...Crunch channel is great when is dimed but if you want light crunch with less gain itīs lifeless and sterille...Lead is nice fuidy...Ńo doubt itīs metal monster but nothing for classic rock tone...

I looked at one of them, but again the clean channel isn't great. Review here -- http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/amplification/instrument-amps/guitar-amp-heads/5150-iii-head-17013/review

And I'm based in the UK.

I'm just going to bite the bullet and get a Peavey. I've had a look through the forums and found a few of them recommending amps such as Jet City and Cornford, which I really like the look of. I'll mabye just save up a bit more and get another head second hand for the more organic stuff :)

I actually had a look at that amp. Is this the one, but the 200w version? -- http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/amplification/instrument-amps/guitar-amp-heads/s1-100-head-220195/review

I also had a look at the Diezel VH4 -- http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/amplification/instrument-amps/guitar-amp-heads/s1-100-head-220195/review Although its out of my price range for the time being, what do people think?
