Anybody done/heard of Couch Surfing?
« on: November 29, 2011, 04:32:31 PM »
Just wondered if anyone has actually done Couch Surfing, or know someone with experience?

I'm more after good comments, rather that the negative, lol.

Been thinking of saving up for the next year, and then doing a tour round the world of the really cool sites such as the Pyramids, Easter island, Nazca Lines, etc.

Ah - is that what it's being called now - it's a bit like having penpals all over the world so that you can stay with them and visit their country and get a holiday on the cheap...

Never done it myself and haven't any friends , but I'm sure it works for some people, although I can imagine that it can have issues and pitfalls....

Jon, you're too hard on yourself... you definatly have some acquaintances and I remember you saying you'd had a friend for a month back in 1987?

i have friends who have done it.
I think there is a website right? and people can rate how nice it was when you visited and you can say how nice somebodies place was when they put you up.
I think it's meant to be easier to find nice places if you actually put a few people up yourself.

Yes - that is how I used to do it too!
Was kind of err.............interesting shall we say  (didn't get to do much actual sightseeing though, never got to Egypt or Easter Island although saw a few mummies and definitely know what the inspiration of the stone heads was from)

I could only give negative comments on couch surfing. The community in Berlin is nice though, for going out. But it's definitely not a thing for me to do.

You're confusing Couch Surfing with Crotch Surfing.
