Grohl is like 'f*ck you Taylor, I'm playing drums with these guys' - love it

I'd seen this a while back - always worth a repeat viewing! Thanks for reminding me.

I hadn't seen this.

JPJ is still an incredible bass player & Page is still as sloppy as ever! An absolute genius though!

Thanks for the link!

Nobody's really slagged him off, just repeated the "Page is sloppy" mantra - which is certainly based on truth.  But I'm sure there are thousands of sloppier players who never get called out on it.

JPJ remains my "favourite" Zeppelin member.  The guy is awesomely talented, but he's so low-key he just sort of passes under the radar.

I read today that Louise Mensch MP has put Page's name forward for a Knighthood.  Wonder if it'll happen?

I like his song writing and production, but I don't get the hero worship that Jimmy Page gets as a guitar player.  In isolation I don't think is playing is that great, but within the context of Zep it fits.  A bit like Frusciante I guess...

I suppose its a bit like having to explain jokes to people, if I need to explain why Page is so great....

See.... it's a "don't get" scenario!

Like that thread which sparked so much unexpected semantic discussion!

It's a bit like someone trying to explain to me why Al Di Meola is so great. I don't think he is although others do. Just a different opinion  :)

To me Jimmy Page falls into another category than many players, it's not just his playing thats hugely influential - its the songwriting, tone, image - the whole package.

I'm not bothered if someone disagrees, I'll still sleep tonight - disagree away, ha ha

I think that's the difference.  I respect him as a musician more much more than as a guitar player, if that makes sense?  He's multi-faceted.

I prefer my guitar heros straight ahead - Slash, SRV etc
