Miracle Man - cosmetic question
« on: December 02, 2011, 10:29:30 AM »
Got my eye on a white Tokai LP Custom. Gold hardware.
Please pretend like I never posted any of my former queries, for convenience's sake

I want to go with a set of Miracle Man pickups in this one. Yes, it would become my Zakk wannabe guitar...
My question :  what look should I go for?
Classic : gold covers
Hotrodded : black open coils
BKP : black covers with gold polepiece screws

It may take me a while to get the funds together (I need to sell a Strat to help pay for this), but I'm very much decided on this combo.

it depends on the hardware on the guitar.

if its gold and you plan on keeping it that way i would go with gold.

But if you plan on changing it out to black which in my opinion looks miles better on white guitars then i would go with black covers

I modified my original post to include gold hardware. And yes, I plan to keep it that way.

^ This.

If they're open coils, black or zebra.

Definitely not black covers.  No offence to BKP, but I think they look awful.

I have a set of Emeralds with gold slugs and screws, they look great.  Trouble is, I don't have a guitar with gold hardware* to put them in!  I keep thinking about buying some kind of MIJ LP Custom just to provide a home for the pickups.

(*Except my Washburn HB-50, that is, but I don't know if they'd suit a semi.  I guess I should just try and see!)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I do like the black covers. Would give some kind of EMG vibe to matters I suppose.
But I am leaning towards gold covers as well, if only to keep the classic LP Custom look intact. It will make the sonic surprise all the bigger :D

The guitar is snow white. I don't like white coils, not even in a Strat, so that's not an option.

Yes it is. But this guitar is cream coloured. The snow white might clash with the cream in the zebra coils. And no, black/white zebra isn't an option.

I have that in an Explorer with gold hardware. That's a very nice look, yeah.

Yes, I think you're right there.

Unless the binding is cream, so there's something else on the guitar to complement cream/black zebra pickups?  But still might look a bit weird.

Like you, I'm not very keen on white (as opposed to cream) pickups, they don't suit many guitars.  I have a white VHII and can't remember why I chose that colour - I guess I'll put it in a Strat eventually.

It's a regular, modern Les Paul Custom (with something else than Gibson on the headstock ;) )
So snow white, 5ply b/w binding, ebonyish fretboard and gold hardware.
