Which qualities do you consider the most important for a jazz pickup that's installed on

#1 - a hollowbody jazzbox

or

#2 - a solidbody like a LP?

For hollowbody I think the pickup needs to be transparent yet full so as not to sound thin-for this I recommend Alnico III and a Mule is just about right to fill the tone out a little.

For solid LP style I tend to move down to a Stormy Monday again with Alnico III for that fat warm tone that jazzers love.

hi I love my mules also! they make great jazz pickups but they also suit more heavier music. The BKP90 in the neck though is very jazzy and beautifully warm! hope this may help you. Listen to tim though he's the man!

Cheers. :) This thread's a little bit old, though. Finally I bought a set of Alnico IV Mules for my Artist. I play heavier music as well and needed the mid focus of the Mules. They're great for everything from jazz to heavy rock. With a pedal metal is also there. 8)
